Caminando Postman Shoes

Like Dylan, we rip and we rhyme and we rhyme and we rip(ple soles). The Prada shoe is, to put it lightly, polarizing. If you hate it, look away now. If you love ‘em then come through, we have something for you. We remember that the chunky shoe was supposed to go away but, like most things menswear, it’s not going away anytime soon – so pick a side. Us? We’re firm members of team chunk. You should be too. 01. The Worst of Times After Years of Success

“Fewer than two dozen Arsenal supporters gathered at the Herbert Chapman pub near Emirates Stadium, hoping to raise a glass in triumph but resigned to lower expectations.

“We’re getting less and less people here as Arsenal get worse and worse,” Emily Burr, 19, the bartender, said of the thin crowd before Tuesday’s Champions League match from Germany began on the pub’s big-screen television.” (New York Times)

02. Remembering Wardell Quezergue

“Wardell Quezergue died today, at the age of 81. Amongst the giants of NOLA’s R&B/funk community, Wardell wasn’t necessarily as influential as Allen Toussaint nor as prolific as Eddie Bo but he was as quintessential a shaper of NOLA’s R&B sound as anyone, and easily one of the most successful, based on a handful of mega-hits he had his hand in.” (Soul Sides)

03. Cynthia Lawrence-John (pictured)

“Cynthia Lawrence-John is a very busy woman. We are pleased the freelance stylist and Fashion Director of Volt Magazine, a bi-annual independent fashion magazine, found some time in her hectic schedule to meet us in her clothes-crammed studio apartment in London-Islington to talk fashion.” (Freunde Von Freunden)

04. French fashion news overshadows New York shows

What is with these French fashion houses? Do they not get enough attention?

- Louis Vuitton became the talk of New York Fashion Week when it announced Yves Carcelle, chief executive, was stepping down — but not now, in a year!

- Ungaro revealed that it was parting ways with its designer, Giles Deacon

- A French court upheld an earlier ruling that the majority family shareholders of Hermès could indeed, combine their shares without having to make the usual tender for the outstanding stock

New York fashion? What’s that? (Financial Times)

Imogene+Willie Interview with Matt Eddmenson

Refueled interviews Matt Eddmenson of Imogene+Willie. “Matt Eddmenson opened Imogene+Willie with wife Carrie in the retrofitted former gas station in Nashville a few years back. Identified solely by a orange plus sign out front, Imogene+Willie have garnered a loyal fan base through word of mouth, artisan craftmanship and incredible attention to detail.” A good viewing and read-through…

New York Bike Share to Begin in 2012

newyork bike share bicycle 1 New York Bike Share to Begin in 2012

NYT is reporting that New York has finally made a decision on who will run their 600 station, 10,000 bicycle share program that will bring the much needed program to the Big Apple. “The program will encourage participants to purchase long- or short-term memberships that include an unlimited number of trips of up to 45 minutes; additional fees will apply for longer trips. A yearly membership will cost $100 or less; other pricing details have yet to be made final.” While the article discusses implementation of the program and the fact that more than 250 miles of bicycle lanes has been added to the city, it does pass over many of the common hurdles cyclists are facing today in Manhattan and the boroughs. We wish this program the best.

The NYC Bike Share, once implemented, will be the largest deployment in the world.
