Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2012 Runway

WWD delivers these look at the ready-to-wear collection from Marc by Marc Jacobs for Spring/Summer 2012. As they mention, “For his male counterpart, Jacobs struck a similarly purist note with a more sophisticated, grown-up aesthetic. Looks included slim-fit tailoring in fiery hues like red and green, utilitarian parkas and a looser Warwick plaid overcoat.” Casual, again.

Billy Reid Sweater

Billy Reid Sweater

This Billy Reid sweater is making the onset of chilly autumn feel just that little less awful. Let’s face it, the only good thing about the end of summer is getting to revisit your forgotten knitwear and that very special ‘just puttin’ on my sweater’ feeling. Billy has taken inspiration from blanket lining with this one, charcoal wool blend, ribbed collar and cuffs.

Lone Wolf The Wireman Boots

Lone Wolf The Wireman Boots

Finding Lone Wolf footwear (a Buzz Rickson sister brand) outside of Japan is quite a task, luckily via Eastman and the wonders of the internet this amazing line is just a click away. The Wireman is based on a 30s/40s work boot and rather reminiscent of the monkey boot. Sturdy, leather stack heel and sole finished with the Goodyear stormwelt and the Famous Cat’s Paw. These are hardcore.

Chimala Work Shirt

An excellent denim number from Made in Japan brand Chimala. Cotton Chambray, this has some expertly done ‘worn’ detailing that manages to look home rather than factory made. An impressive piece from an equally impressive brand Barneys has it.

David Byrne’s giant globe inflated under the High Line

01. Fender Kurt Cobain Guitar

Fender introduces one of its most distinctive signature models ever, the Kurt Cobain Jaguar®-meticulously modeled on the battered and highly unusual 1965 Jaguar that Cobain wielded during the heady early-’90s era when Nirvana ruled rock and led a musically stunning and culturally subversive movement.”

02. David Byrne’s giant globe inflated under the High Line (above)

“Starting on the evening of September 15, you’ll hear it as you approach West 25th Street, coming from under the High Line: womp, womp womp. It’s a little bit foreboding—the sort of low-frequency pulsations that signal zombies in movies and sent Jodie Foster alien-hunting in Contact. It plays on a loop, intercut with other baritone noises. It’s not a soundtrack that’s characteristic of the galleries, car-repair shops, and luxury condos of West Chelsea (though there are lots of subwoofer-equipped nightclubs nearby). It’s certainly not the polyethnic pop we have come to expect from David Byrne.” (nymag)

03. Wonderful Punk And Post-Punk Era Photographs By David Arnoff

“David Arnoff‘s post-punk era photography appeared in the NME, Melody Maker, Trouser Press, N.Y. Rocker and many other publications. The Cleveland-born, but London-based photographer and disc jockey’s work captures iconic bad boys and girls, relaxed and at their most playful. Arnoff is currently readying his photographs for a book and is looking for a publisher. I asked him a few questions over email…” (boing>dangerousminds)

“Vintage 80s: London Street Photography” Book

Selectism - london-street-photography-01

Contrary to what some street style photographers *cough* The Sartorialist *cough* would have you believe, it did exist before the advent of the internet. One example of this is Johnny Stiletto’s book Vintage 80s: London Street Photography Book, which focuses on London during the 80s – as the title suggests. As well as capturing fighting, passed out people & clamped cars he also catches Mick Jagger strolling the streets and Al Capone’s car being put up for auction. Take a look for yourself after the leap. (Creative Review)

Available from Amazon Vintage 80s: London Street Photography Book.

Piad Design Stacking Vessel

Selectism - piad-design-stacking-vessel-01

Like all men, the main thing we look for when buying a product is an excuse. Is it functional? Is it heritage? Is it authentically made? Have the tears of Tibetan monks been used to varnish this wood? Excuses, excuses, excuses. Which is why we like this vase stacking vessel. It’s pretty enough to work as a plain vase and functional enough, being made of three separate and usable compartments, to pass our excuse test. It should pass yours too. (Piad Design)
