Paraboot for Omnigod Chambord Shoe

Paraboot for Omnigod Chambord Shoe

Japanese label Omnigod continue to churn out covetable items with such consistency that we wonder if they have access to some sort of magic bottomless style well and/or have made a pact with Satan. Either way we find ourselves impressed with just about every element of their collection. Take these shoes for example, a collaboration with Paraboot, a French company who have been making walking footwear for nearly a century. The kind of moc toe, goodyear welted goodness we can get on board with. This smarter take on the workboot/shoe hybrid is a thing of beauty.

Filson Miner’s Jacket

29 September 2011, 12.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Filson Miner's Jacket

A nice shawl collar number from Filson Black Label. Made in Italy with 100% virgin wool, it features Filson embossed buttons, 3 exterior pockets and a rather neat pin stripe that elevates it to smarter levels. We’re not suggesting this as a blazer replacement but go ahead and shirt n’ tie this up, something good might just happen if you do. Present London has it.

A Look Inside the Home of J. Crew's Frank Muytjens

Oh, fancy nosing around a well known dutch designers house do you? Well, look no further than Brooklyn Magazine, who have found themselves in the home of J Crew’s Frank Muytjens in North Brooklyn. As you’d guess it’s a shrine to mid-century goodness and general fine taste. The accompanying interview reveals his interior preferences. Frank likes piles of magazines, wooden stools and old rugs for his ginger dog to sit on. More at Brooklyn Mag.

01. Jeff Mills plots a Fantastic Voyage

“The techno veteran has been exploring themes of astrology in his music for a while now, but according to RA, Fantastic Voyage is set not in outer space, but in the human body.” (factmag)

02. jj Cover The Outfield’s “Your Love” (above)

“jj performing Your Love, Live at WAH. This video is from the Monsters of Pop festival edition series. Monsters of Pop is an independent music festival, in Tampere, Finland. This video was recorded live at Klubi’s sauna, on September 22nd, 2011. Video, cameras, sound and all that nonsense: Jukka Kujansivu, Jukka Salminen, Teemu Into.” (stereogum)

03. Amazon Kinde Fire

At $199, the Kindle Fire is the first major competitor to the iPad. It’s based around the Amazon eco-system which includes unlimited Amazon On-Demand movies and TV shows, music players, brower and more. If you want to stay on the Android platform, this is about your only choice on that OS. (amazon)

04. Can magnets make you lie?

“A small Estonian study is offering some hints that our brains could be even weirder than we’d imagined. Researchers found that magnetic pulses directed at a certain part of the frontal cortex affected whether people were more willing to fib, or more likely to tell the truth. Only 16 people were involved in the study, so these results are more something potentially cool to follow up on than a definitive declaration about brain function. There’s a good chance this could turn out to be a statistical fluke. But it is worth researching further. If the effect is real, it could have some really interesting ethical, legal, and neurobiological implications.” (boingboing)

Soft Ride: Ridable bike with steel tires

28 September 2011, 23.30 | Posted in Design | No comments »

Selectism - ron-arad-bike-1

Curated lets us know about this:

“Soft Ride, is one of the latest creations by Ron Arad. The bike uses bent strips of tempered steel to cushion the ride. We’re guessing that it could get a little sketchy when cornering. According to Fastco,

Until October 29, the bike is available for guests of the W Hotel in Leicester Square to ride around the city. And as part of a fundraiser for the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the bike is up for auction, along with other bikes custom designed by the likes of singer Paloma Faith, illustrator Natasha Law, fashion designers Patrick Cox and Alice Temperley, and artist Benedict Radcliffe.”

Student Project | EcoVinyl Turntable and Headphones

Student Project | EcoVinyl Turntable and Headphones

Fastcode turns us onto this student project… While most of your readers are familiar with the Sennheiser name, the German audio company’s name is supposedly known by less than 10% of “regular” headphone consumers. Not sure on that.

Well, industrial design student, Matthew Lim, looks to raise the company profile with his student project, Ecovinyl, which produces a turntable and headphones from sustainable materials. Lim claims that with current production costs, Ecovinyl could retail for $350; not a bad price for the combo.

Trouble is, Sennheiser has not said yea or nay on producing the project. We’ll see what comes of it.

Wim Delvoye | Intricately Carved Tires

Selectism - tires

Curated lets us know about this tire sculpture set. “Belgian Sculpture Wim Delvoye uses tires to create intricately carved sculptures.  The series is entitled pneu.” We don’t think they sell these down the local garage. You can always go and ask, although we accept no responsibility for the ensuing laughter. See more over at Curated.

Papa Bear Loveseat

Selectism - Poppa-bear-loveseat

We like this chair for a two reasons. Firstly, the name (obviously, who wouldn’t want a chair that sounded like Barry White named it?) and secondly, the way it looks. We could add it how it was made but, honestly, as long as it’s well made, the way it looks is much more important than the way it was made. We are visual creatures after all. (Modernica)

First Look | SEH Kelly Autumn/Winter 2011 First Drop

Selectism - seh-kelly-autumn-2011-01

SEH Kelly are about to release their first half of their AW11 products. And when we say about, we mean it’ll be available tomorrow. So start your trigger finger training, you’ll need it when these arrive. As for the clothes themselves, they’re very SEH Kelly – and we mean that in the nicest way – pared down, minimal – all those buzzwords. The sort of stuff that you need and want and you’ll be able to avoid the workwear-chic look that’s prevalent right now.

See what we’re talking about after the leap.
