Another Look | Ruby Motorcycle Helmets

Another Look | Ruby Motorcycle Helmets

Ruby make luxury mobility accessories, that’s fancy helmets to you and me. Brainchild of designer Jerome Coste, after six bike related head injuries and a stint at Californian motocross brand JT Racing he turned his attention to creating helmets that were both good looking and as safe as houses. The design is based on early styles (minus the chinstrap), however the technology behind them is thoroughly modern.

Using materials commonly found in the aerospace industry, carbon fibre to be exact, the brand has been able to make something incredibly light and incredibly strong. This being a ‘luxury’ product, much attention is paid to making them look impressive too. There’s a continuing range of styles as well as the opportunity to create your own custom helmet. Collaborations with Eley Kishimoto, which we previously featured, and Karl Lagerfeld are also available. Stay safe over at Ruby.

Ole Strange for Hansen Cardigan

A collaboration between Hansen and Danish knitwear expert Ole Strange, this contrast sleeve cardigan reminds us a little of early 60s leisurewear. Ole knits everything on original machines in his Jutland factory in a process that can only be described as authentic. A perfect smart layer over a shirt or under a blazer. More over at Blackbird.

Hickorees Opens Stop in Brooklyn

Secret Forts leads us into the real life, bricks n’ mortar world of Hickorees. Brothers Emil and Sandy Corsillo have taken the leap to set up shop in South Williamsburg, sandwiched between their upstairs office and their favourite bar downstairs it contains all the usual suspects you’ve eyed up online as well as new products in the form of parkas by Owner/Operator, Poler tents and Epperson Mountaineering packs. A nice mix of fun products and seriously good garms.

Selectism - drive-01

01. YSL says no truth to Raf Simons rumours

“For everyone who was super-excited about the rumours, sparked this weekend by a report in the IHT, that Jil Sander’s Raf Simons was going to take over from Stefano Pilati as head designer at Yves Saint Laurent: well, Paul Deneuve, YSL’s chief executive, just told me it wasn’t true.

So there’s the official line.” (FT)

02. Jay-Z to Open Brooklyn Nets’ New Home With Concerts

“Jay-Z is the only NBA team owner whose musical talents people get excited for. Sorry, James Dolan.

So, it only makes sense that the New Jersey Nets’ minority owner would help usher in the Brooklyn Nets era with a series of concerts in his hometown. Jay-Z will reportedly unveil the team’s new name in a press conference today (expected to simply be “Brooklyn Nets”.)” (Slam Online)

03. Neon-Noirs: ‘Drive’ & An ’80s Aesthetic (Pictured)

“I really liked ‘Drive.’ If you’ve ever been unlucky enough to get embroiled in a rambling conversation about ’80s thrillers with me, then you’ll know that — as a child of the indy video store era — I love that genre. Title screens flash with neon, character actors crack skulls, fake blood is in abundance and when the films are at their best, there’s an inherent taint of sleaze. You can clean up the audio and video all you like, taking it to Blu-ray quality, but that sleaze is too tough to shift. ‘Drive’ is Nicolas Winding Refn’s tribute to that era and he gets it pitch perfect, while shaving off the crappier aspect, so those vintage Clubmasters of yours stay tinted. The urgency of Refn’s ‘Pusher’ trilogy seemed at odds with the cinematic rebirth of his often-ponderous ‘Valhalla Rising’ but here the deliberate pace is pitched perfect, indicating that he’s that he’s opted to (Michael) Mann up.” (Gwarizm)

04. How Street Style Changed the Frontier of Fashion Photography

“A few weeks ago, Marie Claire editor Taylor Tomasi Hill ran into an old friend outside a fashion show in Lincoln Center. They both stopped to catch up, but were interrupted by a man who tapped the friend on the arm. “Excuse me,” he said, “but do you mind stepping aside for a moment while I take her picture?” He was pointing to Tomasi Hill. Nonplussed, the friend backed away, and a swarm of photographers quickly closed in.” (The Cut)

Selectism - nanamica-day-pack-01

Nanamica have started applying their fancy fabrications to accessories, starting with this backpack. We’ve heard some rumblings about how backpacks have become ubiquitous but, as that song we can’t remember the title of goes, it ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it. And this backpack is doing it the right way. (Nitty Gritty)

Nike “Perfect Strike Event” T90 Cleats and Seitiro Soccer Ball

Nike "Perfect Strike Event" T90 Cleats and Seitiro Soccer Ball

Working for this site allows for some unique opportunities that go beyond the runways and presentation shows housed inside the city. If it involved kicking a soccer ball around a pitch in Queens on a Thursday night, all the better. We had this opportunity this past week during Nike’s “Perfect Strike” event. The showcase was a special dual launch to the media featuring the new improved Nike T90 soccer cleat and their premier match ball, the T90 Seitiro.

More importantly, after the media event, we boarded a bus to Queens to play on one of New York City’s oldest pitches, the Met Oval.

We bring you some looks from the experience with the new Nike T90 and Nike Seitiro match ball after the click.
