Selectism - dents-leather-gloves-01

And before anyone gets smart, no we’re not rushing the seasons. It’s actually cold enough (where we are at least) to start thinking about gloves. We know there’s all sorts of cool guy brands doing gloves, but it’s best to stick to those who really know what they’re doing. And, having made gloves for royalty, Dents really know what they’re doing. (Dents)

Well, that collection looks to have entered a commercial production run exclusive to Selfridges in London. Eight to twelve units of each bag will be available for purchase.

master piece chair 01 Master Piece Fold Up Chair

Ok, so we’re trying to find a reason to buy this chair. We might take up fishing, that could definitely happen. What if we get really tired whilst walking around the Louvre, I mean that’s a possibility right? Does sitting in your garden, no tent, for like an hour constitute camping? Actually, by purchasing this very attractive folding chair we have no use for we are stimulating the economy and helping bring this catastrophic worldwide recession to an end. Let’s head over to Oki-ni and do our bit for mankind.

RRL Online Shop

rrl cardigan 01 RRL Online Shop

Many will welcome the opening of London’s very own RRL store on Mount Street with feverish excitement. Fans of the brand have had it hard, getting hold of this much protected label hasn’t been easy but with the Liberty concession, a shiny new web showcase and now a denim and canvas clad temple to finally worship at, many an addiction will finally be fed. The expansion continues. As if to get consumers truly hooked, goods are now available to buy online. Shop from the comfort of your sofa, browse at 4am, purchase while eating chicken noodle soup. We’d like to recommend this heavyweight shawl cardigan, taking Fairisle to a new level. 100% lambswool, this is the star of the show. So, wearing 7 year old sweatpants and a t-shirt you got free from the gym? Go ahead and hit the website, Ralph can’t see you now.

Yeong Deok Seo chain 01 Yeong Deok Seo Chain Sculptures

Korean artist Yeong-Deok Seo has created something exceptional out of the seemingly ordinary. Industrial and bike chains welded into sculptures of human figures and faces with incredible skill. We’re still trying to get our heads around the construction and design behind these. The larger pieces particularly mind-blowing, Colossal has more.

Roy Jeans Interview

ROY Jeans 01 Roy Jeans Interview

Great little interview with Roy Slaper of Roy jeans over at 189. A self-taught creator of solid selvedge jeans, Roy took an interest in denim and old machinery and turned it into a much sought after label, everything crafted by his own fair hands and a selection of well used vintage sewing machines. A one man mission to take denim back to basics.

Selectism - set-free-richardson

01. Set Free Richardson (pictured)

“Set Free Richardson is a creative director and strategic marketing professional. He also an editor at Highsnobiety. His wife, Liza Richardson, is a visual brand consultant. Some of her work can be found here. Portraits taken at their apartment in the Bronx.” (An Afternoon With)

02. Original Sin: An Interview With Lana Del Rey

“She talks like a dairy queen, like Britney Spears, like a cheerleader. 24 years old and exuding the hardy effervescence unique to healthy American girls, there is nothing in Del Rey’s manner that connects the voice at the end of the line to ‘Video Games’, the YouTube smash hit carried by a purring vocal performance so rich you can feel almost feel David Lynch’s velvet carpeting under your fingers.

That is until I hit playback on my telephone’s dictaphone. Slowly all the years of a weary, haunted youth spent in backwoods New York State unravel from under her bubbly facade, like furtive murmurings on the other side of a door. As per the many doomed chanteuses and dead movie idols she invokes in her cinematic music, it seems Del Rey is a good actress. In true Lynch fashion, beneath her white picket-fenced cheer hide the writhing earthworms that plague her heavy heart.” (The Quietus)

03. Fine Candidate

“Was in town yesterday, Spencer Hart HQ, and while picking up the pertest of chocolate brown chinos (they’re too good for the chino moniker frankly, more of them later) ended up thumbing through a book on Dave, one of many in the shop. I bought it as there were a number of early shots that had never seen, others simply couldn’t resist.” (Style & Error)

04. The Sweet Science; A Sour Saturday

“Now I know how it feels to be a Zab Judah fan:

Rushing to your man’s defense with flimsy excuses after yet another poor outing.

Suspecting he has wasted his talent yet finding reasons to believe he’ll one day cash in on the vast potential he once showed.

Assuring others he’s still relevant even though you don’t quite believe it yourself anymore.

Trying hard not to feel that way about boxing these days, but a pair of bouts from this past weekend…” (By Morgan Campbell)

Davone Ray Loudspeakers

Davone Ray Speakers

Having missed these when they were first released is almost embarrassing to this writer. The Davone Ray Loudspeakers may be some of the most beautiful works of sound art we have seen. The Danish made speakers are ridiculously beautiful and from the noted reviews on them, sound as beautiful. The pair will set you back around $7500. Everything is right about this set: the stands are made from tubular steel, the veneer is perfect. I’m trying to find a place locally to demo them now…

Note: You will need proper components to drive these. If you plan on paying $7,500 for the speakers, double that for your components purchase.
