Tom Burr Table-Tennis Table for Neiman Marcus

The 85th edition of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is ready to deliver a wave of one-of-a-kind items for Holiday 2011. Since their first publication back in 1926, the Neiman Marcus book has worked in conjunction with charities to make the celebrations even more special.

This $45,000 table-tennis table with its black rubber surface by Tom Burr is up there. As he puts it:  “I like the notion of rubber. It has low-key glamour, like that of a sports car’s bumpers and guards. And, quite simply, rubber makes the balls bounce—more bounce for your buck.” $2,500 from each table sold will benefit the Big Brothers, Big Sister charity. Ten units will be produced.

Dan Flavin: 1964 Green Gallery Exhibition

19 October 2011, 18.30 | Posted in Books & Magazines | No comments »

Selectism - dan-flavin-green-gallery-01

Examining the early work of Dan Flavin, the 1964 Green Gallery Exhibition looks at the work shown at the short lived Green Gallery. Here’s a little something from the blurb:

“The Green Gallery show was the first exhibition in which the artist presented only fluorescent light pieces, and it included such important works as the diagonal of May 25, 1963 (to Robert Rosenblum), 1963; a primary picture, 1964; and the nominal three (to William of Ockham), 1963. It marked the development of the language of illumination that would characterize Flavin’s influential work until his death in 1996, and is therefore considered by many to be one of the key gallery exhibitions of the 1960’s.”

The book will be out in November and will cost £25. Published by Steidl (an earlier version of this book was published in 2010 Dan Flavin: 1964 Green Gallery Exhibition.)
