The Stone Roses Reunite

For better or for worse, Machester’s The Stone Roses are reuniting in 2012 for what looks to be a world tour and more. As stated on their .org website: “the legendary four-piece – Ian, John, Mani and Reni – have announced two massive shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park on Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30, 2012. The dates will form part of an extensive world tour. The band have already been into a rehearsal studio to start work on the set-list for the one of the most eagerly anticipated reunifications ever.”

WTF.

Selectism - Private-eye-50-years-01

One of our favourite magazines has just launched an exhibition at the V&A. If you’re not familiar with Private Eye, it’s a British political satirical magazine that mixes humour and cartoons with investigative journalism. This exhibition focuses on the humorous side of the magazine, specifically the cartoon art. They’ve worked with several noted artists over the years, including the likes of Willie Rushton, Ralph Steadman, Michael Neath and Gerald Scarfe. (Creative Review)

Recap | Lori Blados @ Diane Birdsall Gallery

18 October 2011, 16.30 | Posted in Art | No comments »

Selectism - intnight

Curated lets us know about this:

“New York based painter Lori Blados is currently exhibiting at the Diane Birdsall Gallery.

Lori Blados’ new work, illustrated on board and in acrylic, is a brightly rendered and playful meditation on environments both real and imagined. Birds twitter about as they peek inside their birdhouses–simple, triangular shaped structures reminiscent of something a child might draw. It is in her quirky style that Blados plays with the concepts of reality and fantasy. The birds are peering into a world that is curiously human, curiously askew. The objects of our everyday become spectacles.”

Selectism - wommelsdorff-beanie

Wooly hats! You need one on your head when it gets cold. You need one on your head when you’re having a bad hair day. Take it off when you get inside though, you’ll just look like a douche otherwise. (Opening Ceremony)

Never Records

never records 01 Never Records

Never Records is a little bit of everything and trying to distill it into a few lines here feels a little futiile. However, at the heart of it is founder, Ted Riederer’s, desire to bring back the spirit of record shops of old. For the NY artist it’s all about community, vinyl stores were places to hang out, to meet friends, to argue about the issues of the day and share information, they were at the heart of the local music scene and were driven by passion rather than profits. Ted hopes that his temporary retail spaces which have travelled from NY to Liverpool, Derry to London will help foster this kind of community spirit he experienced in his youth. After a successful run in the UK capital, Ted moves onto to new lands, perhaps in an empty shopfront near you.
