Makia for Movember Collection 2011

Movember is a charity campaign that encourages men to “sprout” mustaches for the month of November to push awareness of men’s health, specifically prostate and other cancers that affect men. A bunch of great organizations benefit from the Movember movement including LIVESTRONG and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Makia Clothing helps the cause with a small collection of garments and accessories tailored for Movember and men in general. Knit caps and scarves are the easy to wear (and support) standouts.

Selectism - moncler-camouflage-jacket-01

Hey guys, have you heard about this cool thing called camouflage? It’s pretty cool. Some people are using it on coats, shirts and trousers. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard about it, it’s pretty underground. Moncler have brought out a jacket in this underused camo stuff and we have to say, it’s pretty handsome. Keep an eye out for this camo stuff, it’s gonna be huge mark our words. (Browns)

Commune de Paris Knits for Autumn/Winter 2011 Looks

commune de paris fall2011 1 Commune de Paris Knits for Autumn/Winter 2011 Looks

Following up on our first preview of their Autumn Winter 2011 collection, Commune de Paris provides flat looks at the garments that you should consider for the coming months. Their press release dumps adjectives all over the collection: “Its palette is composed of deep blues, warm browns and, here and there, a few notes of spicy red. Its material is rich but always delicately wrought. The design espouses its subject to perfection, at times light, at others elaborate, but always elegant. But what constantly strikes one is the almost manic care given to every detail, an inherited skill that was thought to be lost.”

Selectism - 3939-store-visit-01

We recently revisited the new home of 3939, which has moved from the time we showcased it in our Selectism Sessions series. Now based on Kingsland road (pop in if you’re in the area) they’ve shifted things around a bit and added a holographic ring installation that had this writer cooing like a buffoon. See more looks from the store after the leap.

Liberty of London Drawstring Trench

Selectism - liberty-london-trench-coat-01

We’re always up for a trench coat, especially when it’s made by the world’s most handsome department store, Liberty. If we were more fashion magaziney we’d say we like the sleek, clean minimalism of this jacket. As we’re not we’ll say we like the raglan sleeves and the fact that you’ll look like an nu-school version of Peter Sellers in it. (Liberty)

Hickoree's Hard Goods Shop | A Look Inside

Now that The Hickorees brick and mortar shop has been open for a minute, now we take a moment to stroll through the interior. The Brooklyn based Hard Goods shop features a wide selection of goods found in their online shop as well as various small trinkets which are not. The selection and curation of the shop is well done. It is very nice to see that retail continues to thrive. Find them at: 109 South 6th Street (2nd Floor) in Brooklyn, NY.

Jil Sander Cable Knit Jacket

Selectism - jil-sander-cable-knit-jacket-01

Everyone in trendland – an actual place, we’ve been there – is raving about the aran cable knit jumper this season. On one hand, we like it – it’s a bonafied classic after all and there’s no better time to get a luxe version of something you’ll still be wearing in 20 years than when it’s hot in the streets. On the other hand, we want something that’ll stand out a little. And that’s where this Jil Sander piece comes in. It’s not so crazy that you’ll look crazy, but it’s different enough from the sea of aran to warrant our attention. (Farfetch)

The Hill-Side Pointed Neckties

The Hill-Side Pointed Neckties

We like to imagine there’s a huge bin somewhere containing all the tie points that have gone out of favour of late. We don’t have a problem with the straight edged variety but the introduction of The Hill-Side neckwear “now with a point!” definitely warrants a mention. We all know the brand has a reputation for great modern ties so expect much the same in terms of pattern and fabric – chambray, plaid and gingham all present. However now you have the option of an added point and who are we argue with a new variation on one of our favourite lines.
