Frank Leder Cardigan

Selectism - frank-leder-cardigan-01

Frank Leder’s one of those labels that have more pull over in Japan than they do in the western hemisphere. We don’t have the time or desire to find out why at this very moment but we’re glad South Willard are stocking some of their goods. This cardigan’s a straightforward, classy, piece of knitwear that’ll slot into your wardrobe easier than, errrrr, a great piece of knitwear. (South Willard)

First Look | John Lobb Saint Crépin

Selectism - john-lobb-saint-crepin-01

John Lobb have paid respect to their patron saint, Saint Crépin, the only way they know how: making a shoe. A captoe oxford on the 8000 last, it’s made using their ‘prestige process’, something that involves all sorts of wheeled welts, tapered heels, hand sculptured waists and other old school techniques. It’ll be released on October 25th which is, coincidentally, Saint Crépin day.

Generic Surplus The Dury Shoe for Autumn/Winter 2011

British music legend, Ian Dury is the inspiration behind the “dappe shoe” from the Generic Surplus collection. The easy to wear shoe works across a variety of occasions and is available in grey, teak, “patriot” blue, and our favorite, perf’d black suede. Find them at Generic Surplus.

Junya Watanabe Knitted Overshirt

Selectism - junya-watanabe-knitted-overshirt-01

Like every menswear blogger in the world right now, we can’t resist a bit of Watanabe. Now that everyone’s creamed themselves over the varsities, it’s time to look at some other bits from the collection – like this knitted overshirt. If you want a tweak or a twist Watanabe is your guy, the only thing stopping us from not going head to toe Watanabe is our lack of a sugar momma to supply our habit. We’re still taking applications people. (Firmanent)

Proper Magazine Issue 11

Selectism - proper-magazine-01

Proper, aka the magazine that reminds you menswear isn’t all sharp suited steezologists and solemn tales of workwear, has just released their eleventh issue. It’s got interviews with the likes of Our Legacy and Velour as well as a fishing trip with Barbour collaborator Tokhito Yoshida. More magazine-y goodness than you shake a rod at.

See some spreads after the leap.

Michael Landy at Frieze 2011

Michael Landy at Frieze 2011

Would you swap your credit card for a one-off piece by Michael Landy? It’s Nice That alerts us to the question facing Frieze art fair goers this weekend. A whirling mass of wheels and pulleys operates a less than hi-tech felt tip pen, creating your very own custom spiral piece of art scribble. Of course, nothing in this world comes without a price. Forget parting with cash, Mr Landy wants your plastic. In return for a one off piece you must watch as your visa is dropped into a wood chipper, destroyed forever – well, until you order a new one. The choice is yours.

Yuketen Deerskin Tote Bag

Yuketen Deerskin Tote Bag

Yuketen really know their way around a piece of leather. They’ve chosen deerskin for this one and in doing so have created a tote so soft you’ll want to carry it gently pressed up against your face. This really is quite the looker, reinforced leather base, sturdy handles, buckle top and cotton lining. Oi Polloi assure us this comes with that new leather bag smell at no extra cost.

Sperry Camo Loafers for Penfield

Sperry Camo Loafers for Penfield

A peek at the Penfield x Sperry collaboration, two American standards who have combined forces in the spirit of New England togetherness. We’re rather taken with the camo loafer. Sure, they’re a statement and a half but the larger print makes for a more subtle military feel. Beefroll stitching and light sole, if you’re looking to, erm, dip your toe into the camouflage trend these might be a good starting point.
