01. COS supports Frame at Frieze Art Fair 2011

“COS are continuing their support in partnering with Frame at Frieze Art Fair this year. They believe the Frieze Art Fair reflects this outlook by supporting artists which challenge the boundaries of contemporary art.” (youtube)

02. Garbage Collectors: Scott Webel / Museum of Ephemerata

“Ephemerata Gardens collects all kinds of objects and life forms.1 Some are added on purpose, and others move into the landscape patch of their own volition. Collecting is a process whereby a habitat temporarily gathers things together in a net of emergent relationships. Sometimes a sorting mechanism aggregates collections by size, weight, composition, or information content. Other times everything is anarchically roiled and churned. Shiny silver candy wrappers and Styrofoam cup shreds blow into the yard from the alley. Nesting blue jays drop six-pack rings. A plastic grocery bag parachutes from the sky onto the tomatoes.” (flow)

03. Massive Attack vs. Burial – ‘Four Walls’

“Because despite the fact that Will Bevan clearly knows his way around a beat (I mean, ‘Near Dark’, come on), what makes his music so affecting is its rich, endlessly layered atmosphere and the timing with which those trademark flashes of light are deployed. That’s probably nothing new to anybody who’s listened to Untrue, but it’s worth noting when you listen to ‘Four Walls’ – Burial’s longest track to date, and for all intents and purposes, an ambient one. Sure, there’s drums – a clock-esque tick-tock fills the majority of the track, and a gated kick-drum closes it – but it’s never once concerned with rhythm; all that minimal tick-tock really represents is blank space for Burial to get as virtuoso and experimental with sound design as he ever has before.” (fact)

Selectism - michael-peck-the-landing

Here’s a look at this preview:

“Metro Gallery in Victoria Australia will be opening a Michael Peck exhibit “The Landing” on November 14th. Peck’s work mixes a monochromatic photographic style of painting with subject matter reminiscent of 50’s style propaganda.”

Selectism - big-mother-mcbess-01

Never let it be said that we don’t like a curveball. This A3 magazine is the complete personal works of McBess, a french artist and video director. If we had to describe it – and we do – we’d say that It’s a little weird, but in the best way possible. It’s also limited to 2,000 copies so you’ll have to be quick on the trigger. See some spreads after the leap. (No Brow)

Calypso Leather Cases for the iPhone 4(s)

Calypso iPhone 4 Case

Another one from our friends at the CH: You’ll note today that Apple lifted their media embargo on the new iPhone 4s.  Most reviews are positive with focus in on the speed and power of the new phone. But to all those sitting on the iPhone 4 (including this writer), you still have one of the most powerful devices out there for mobility and communication… but you should buy a case.

Yes, I have dropped my iPhone and shattered that fragile glass screen. Yes, Applecare did me right by offering that un-official one-time courtesy replacement. And yes, the Apple Genius rep left me with one very important message: “buy a case.” Problem is I hate most cases, except maybe this leather sleeve from Slovenia’s Calypso. Their made from Italian leather and form fit to slip the iPhone 4 and 4s nicely into place. They’re priced at US$133, which is well less than the normal price for day the LV or Goyard varieties.

A Look Inside UNIQLO’s New Global Flagship on Fifth Ave., NYC

12 October 2011, 18.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

An Inside Look at UNIQLO's New Global Flagship on Fifth Ave., NYC

You would except that the largest flagship shop from Japanese basics/fashion brand, UNIQLO would reside somewhere in Tokyo. Truth is, it will reside inNew York City. The “new” global flagship from UNIQLO, opening this Friday morning on Fifth Ave, is the largest build-out in the company’s history.

Designed by Wonderwall (you know the name), the new UNIQLO shop will be the largest single retailer on Fifth Ave. with more than 89,000 square feet of retail space across three floors. Those familiar with the UNIQLO SOHO location and the congestion that fills it during the busy weekend, will want to explore the new Fifth Ave location. The retail space is open and wide for shopping and browsing. More than 200 LCD and LED screens throughout the new store will deliver UNIQLO styled looks and more.

The UNIQLO Fifth Ave. opening has been blitzed hard in the media for months now and Friday will be a exceptional day for the retailer. Those looking for store opening specials will be pleased to hear that their basic v-neck cashmere sweater will sell for $50 (down from the normal $99) and Japanese denim lovers will want to be quick to lock in a pair of slim or straight denim for $9.99. That’s right: $9.99.

See you Friday.

Grenson for Barbour Marske Brogue

12 October 2011, 17.30 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

grenson barbour brogue shoe mens 1 Grenson for Barbour Marske Brogue

We’ll tell you that Grenson is still very much an in-house favorite, as is Barbour. Sure, the world (including us) have pushed and hyped both brands well beyond either company’s idea of placement, but do the two work together well? Do Barbour textiles work against the Grenson brogue? We think so. The thick welted brogue works. Three other styles from this small collection including a derby boot and wingtip shoe are coming soon.
