Our Legacy First Polka Dot Shirt

Another great print from our Swedish friends at Our Legacy. This time they’ve chosen the ever reliable polka dot, white spots on grey 100% cotton brushed fabric, giving this a washed and worn look. Curved hem and cuffs, this feels like the kind of shirt you throw on without giving it too much thought. Don’t forget to look a little surprised when the compliments come rolling in. Find it a Coggles.

Goodhood for Carhartt - 'From Mill to Millions'

We covered Goodhood’s Carhartt lookbook a while back, now we return with a closer look at the vintage pieces which formed the 1889 exhibition. These are the real deal. Battered dungarees, union labels, faded chore jackets right through to a 1980’s Tommy Boy hooded jacket that would send eBay in a spin. ‘From Mill to Millions’, a pictorial history of an American classic.

McIntosh MC275 50th Anniversary Tube Amplifier

mcintosh mc275 tube amp special 1 McIntosh MC275 50th Anniversary Tube Amplifier

It is pretty clear that the appreciation and love for the tube amp “sound” is stronger today than it has been over the past decade. There is a good reason of course: the sound of tubes bring a warmth and wide sound not common from today’s chip based amps. That warmth does not usually come easy though. While price is usually the deterrent, finding replacement tubes (they do burn out) may not have been as easy. Lucky for us that supply chain has also adjusted with the increased awareness.

McIntosh, one of the remaining true heritage hi-fi equipment producers in the United States, celebrates 50 years in the tube amplification game with an upgraded take on the MC275 tube amp. The “anniversary” edition is a helluva an all-inclusive amp. The classic MC275 tube amp sports multiple inputs, a solid LED display, an a power management unit that shuts down the amp when one of the tube burns out. Add in some gold plating and the McIntosh MC275 50th Anniversary Tube Amplifier is a stunner at $6500 and comes in  a special edition box with commemorative book.

Aether Apparel AETHERstream

Aether Apparel AETHERstream

Our friends at Aether Apparel have teamed with Paris-based designer, Thierry Gaugain, on the excellent AETHERstream traveling cocept shop on wheels. The the 32 foot AETHERstream, currently parked at 8207 W. 3rd Street in Los Angeles, is a fully gutted, 34 foot PanAmerica Airstream. Gaugain redesigned the interior from scratch: 11 inch reclaimed oak floors, custom sofas and table by Environment Furniture, “who uses sustainable harvested wood and the reuse of otherwise discarded materials.” Well worth a stop in for a look. You’ll find the AETHERstream open 11:00am – 7:00pm daily.

01. The V&A announces plans for a major exhibition of British design

“British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age Sponsored by Ernst & Young 31 March – 12 August 2012. The V&A’s major spring exhibition will showcase the best of British design and creative talent from the 1948 ‘Austerity Olympics’ to the summer of 2012. It will be the first comprehensive exhibition to examine the ways in which artists and designers who were born, trained or working in the UK have produced innovative and internationally acclaimed works from post-war to the present day. Ranging from the Morris Mini Minor (1959) to the newly commissioned model of Zaha Hadid’s London Aquatics Centre (2011), the objects on display will aim to reinforce Britain’s status as a global leader in design. (dezeen)

02. Ishac Bertran: Analog Vinyl Sampling

“a few decades to a time before music went digital. Using nothing but LPs and simple laser technology (oxymoron) he physically cuts and pastes chunks of vinyl together to create tangible audio mash-ups that look and sound surprisingly awesome. He’s also made an informative video documenting the whole process. Keep an eye out for Lil’ John and Supertramp spinning on the same piece of shellac. Inspired.” (itsnicethat)

03. Look Silly, Save Coffee

“If ‘Oh come on, what the?!” came to mind when you saw this, you can sit next to me. The SpillNot doesn’t look like a time-saver, but it claims to be a real coffee saver.’ ” (incrediblethings)

04. Thom Yorke: ‘It’s not who you steal from, it’s how you steal’

“NPR’s Guy Raz asked how the band reinvents themselves every time and how the band approach every album. Thom Yorke: “We’re not trying to be experimental or anything. When I first started doing demo’s on my own, I was quite a good imitator. I see it in my daughter, she’s the same. You’re constantly learning from other music and then there’s that Lennon thing about it, ‘It’s not who you steal from, it’s how you steal.’ I’m constantly absorbing other music and that’s what stimulates me the most. And to have the ability within our group with Nigel to move around in all these different areas.’”(atease)
