We’ve decided to take a slight detour this week. Instead of the usual menswear goodness, we shot Nine Nails Tattoo parlour, the new shop just off Old Street. Tattoo fanatics should appreciate the the layout, images and, obviously, tattoos whilst the rest of you will appreciate the surprise.

Senseless Drawing Bot

http://www.vimeo.com/30780208

If you had a robot, what would make it do? Cook? Drive your car? Do your taxes? Would you ask it to stand guard at your front door and karate chop intruders? Well,  So Kanno and Takahiro Yamaguchi asked there’s to do something altogether less practical. This is the Senseless Drawing Bot. It’s sole function is to travel the length of the room and apply paint to the wall in a seemingly random slapdash fashion, creating free-form, graffiti-esque patterns. We like it and unlike many robots, we’re pretty sure this one isn’t capable of becoming sentient and destroying mankind. (It’s nice that)

Utile Chipperfield Blazer

Another lesson in simplicity from Utile Clothing. The Chipperfield Blazer is as bare-bones as it gets. If you’re looking for a jacket that comes with an exhaustive list of details look away now. Navy english cotton twill, corozo nut buttons, 2 external pockets and 1 internal. That’s about it. Smart, isn’t it?

Boardwalk Empire Costume Designers | Interview

http://www.vimeo.com/30798404

We are the market talk to costume designers John A. Dunn and Lisa Padovani about their work on one of the best dressed series around, Boardwalk Empire. In terms of accuracy these guys go all out to get the details just right and it shows. From corrupt politicians to newsboys, looking sharp is the order of the day. No easy task, thankfully it takes a whole team of experts to create such an incredible looking cast so we’re hoping this doesn’t make it to the streets any time soon in some ill-conceived trend. Selectism - luxirare-01

01. Edible Shot Glasses (Pictured)

“I should have done this months ago, like during the summer as these are frozen alcoholic treats, but better late than never..” (Luxirare)

02. Juergen Teller on his controversial 032c shoot

“Juergen Teller caused a storm this summer with a shoot for 032c magazine, showing Kristen McMenamy in Carlo Mollino’s house. Following Mollino’s edict that “anything is permissable as long as it is fantastic”, the shoot pushed the boundaries but it wasn’t deliberately controversial, says Teller. BJP has published a piece on it in the November issue, out on 02 November, but here’s the interview in full.” (BJP Online)

03. Love, Songs

“It’s probably self-evident that people connect to songs on a personal basis (duh) but nowhere else are the stakes higher than choosing songs for a wedding. I don’t presume this is the case for every couple but for me, I know I’d probably agonize over what songs to choose for the processional, recessional, first dance, last dance, etc.

As such, I’m always curious to see what couples go with and very often, I learn something new along the way. For example, for DJ Phatrick’s wedding last summer, their processional was the “Suite for Ma Dukes” version of “Fall In Love” which was perfect on so many levels.” (Soul Sides)

04. Floyd Mayweather found not guilty

“Floyd Mayweather Jr. was acquitted Wednesday of misdemeanor harassment charges alleging he threatened the lives of two homeowner association security guards in an argument about parking tickets outside the boxer’s Las Vegas home.

The 34-year-old prizefighter didn’t testify during the Las Vegas Justice Court trial. His attorney called the encounter between Mayweather and the guards a “trivial matter,” and said the case hinged on the boxer’s celebrity.” (ESPN)

Recap | Chloe Early at Joshua Liner Gallery

Selectism - 2011-shotbyjake-com-2014-2

Curated lets us know about this:

“Last Thursday, Chloe Early opened her exhibit “Feathers and Wax” at the Joshua Liner Gallery.

Working in oils on linen and aluminum panel, Chloe Early has developed a unique style that is simultaneously lush and raw. The romantic and the gritty meet in her paintings, which tease out a distinctively poetic worldview through the juxtaposition of extremes. At their core is a sensitivity to lyrical feelings and themes—love, beauty, innocence, softness—which collide with more worldly symbols of aggression and degradation, such as bullets, bombs, urban refuse, and ruins.”
