QWSTION FW11 bags1 Qwstion Autumn/Winter 2011 Bags

Qwstion have taken their most popular styles and made them monochrome friendly in this washed black fabric. Autumn Winter  takes a calmer turn with these back packs, laptop cases, wash bags and holdalls. The thinking is there’s too much glitz and colour around this time of year so best to keep things simple with an eyeball friendly tone that won’t make you look like a christmas decoration. Fair enough. More at Qwstion

"Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures" Book

Not the usual tome for us but an interesting book for those looking for a different angle on fashion. Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures Book looks at this 70’s “It Girl” (as Yves Saint Laurent pronounced her). “Marisa Berenson is the original modern muse-inspiring fashion designers, photographers, stylists, and fashion editors for over thirty years. Born of noble lineage-and the granddaughter of the famed fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli-Berenson’s meteoric rise began formally at age sixteen, leading to numerous covers and editorials in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar.” The book Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures Book is a solid coffee table addition for anyone with an interest in the history of world around fashion. A nice holiday pickup. Out on Rizzoli. Available from Amazon Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures Book.

Chaise Etiquette

Selectism - chaise-etiquette-01

Notcot lets us know about this chair from La Firme. When it’s set out it looks like a regular chair but fold it up and it looks like a label, which is nice. On a practical note, we’re sure the hole means it could hang on a strong hook if you wanted to save space. Also, you could take amusing scale based pictures all day, like how people do with the leaning tower of Pisa. The possibilities are downright endless. Endless, we tells ya. (La Firme)

Verities Magazine Issue 1

Selectism - verities-magazine-01

Sometimes we can tire of magazines with overtly lofty goals – especially when the magazine itself turns out to be the same old clap trap we’ve long since got bored of. Which is why we like Verities. Yes, they have those aforementioned lofty goals but they actually reach them, which is a rarity. And it looks good whilst doing it, something that’s important to our shallow, visual obsessed selves. Video | A Conversation with Dieter Rams – Less and More

In this conversation for his exhibition at SF MOMA, industrial designer, Dieter Rams discusses his “Less is better” idea. More importantly, Rams discusses the idea that less than ten large companies and corporations exist that care about design. Well worth a viewing. The exhibition, “Less and More – The Design Ethos of Dieter Rams” runs through February 2012.

Selectism - attachment-zip-trainers-01

And we’re continuing our Japanese love fest with these Attachment trainers. Or sneakers if you’re fancy (or American). If you’re positive you’ll say this are a fresh update on a classic. If you’re negative you’ll call it Chucks with a zip. We quite like them, so we’re going with the fresh update sentence. As with most Japan based items, you’ll have to get your proxy on. (Mindtrive)

AquaDive Diver Watches

aquadive diving watches 1 AquaDive Diver Watches

AquaDive is a fresh new watch maker on the streets. Their watches are designed in the USA, constructed in Switzerland with cases that are CNC machined and finished in Germany. More interesting is their use of NOS (new old stock) components in the manufacturing process. In some cases such as the NOS model numerous parts from the casing to quartz are brought back from the past. The Bathyscaphe 300 model, in an edition of 300 features a NOS case that’s been re-machined to house the new movements.  AquaDive watches start at $1990 US. Look for them in 2012. (tz)

Selectism - gold-wool-sports-jacket-01

You guys still know that everything’s better in Japan right? Well it is. And the proof is exhibit A, pictured above. We’re tiring of tacking elbow patches onto everything but we do like it when it’s done well, like it is on this Gold jacket. The only problem now is getting hold of it. Sharp Service will allow you to get your proxy on. (Museum Arks)
