Technical sportswear on its way for 2012. UVU, a new line from Dominic Stansfield (previously of Duffer and Stansfield), has taken on the considerable talents of KTC China. A factory responsible for some of the best sportswear out there, these guys mean business. The ethos of the brand is simple, perfection over, well, anything else. Driven by some of the most advanced fabrics available, “UVU innovations include the use of nano-technology fabrics, waterproofing Japanese spun jersey and oxford fabrics. Sweatshirts and shirts with bonded seams.” Just to make sure everything is fully functioning each item is pushed to its limits “tested in the most extreme climates on earth, from the arctic to the tropics.” Keep an eye on UVU for some future friendly sports garms.

“A Journey Like No Other” reminds us that, when possible, take the opportunity to explore off the normal path. In the latest installment video, we find ourselves with Max in the Andean plains of Peru exploring the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. As the only hotel located adjacent to the ancient Inca citadel, the Machu Picchi Sanctuary Lodge offers an experience of the site when the tour buses have passed. Heading off grid, Max continues his  journey in Peru by heading off the grid to Hotel Monasterio in the ancient Incan capital city of Cusco.

The Sheldrake by Oliver Peoples

oliverpeoples sheldrake 01 The Sheldrake by Oliver Peoples

One for our ocularly challenged brethren out there. If your eyesight isn’t up to scratch and your glasses very much prescription rather than unnecessary stylistic flourish, we feel your pain. Luckily, being far or near sighted means you get to don some smart frames and imagine you’re Bruce Boyer or Gandhi. The Sheldrake is inspired by another legendary spectacle wearer (and hair genius) Andy Warhol. The keyhole bridge is a nice touch and the range of colours available should satisfy any eyewear needs you might have. Over at Oliver Peoples.

Do Ho Suh Sculptures

Do Ho Suh 01 Do Ho Suh Sculptures

We take a look at the incredible work of Korean artist Do Ho Suh. Playing with scale and colour, his sculptures and installations are full of humour, repetition and intense detail. Lehmann Maupin tell us more. “Do Ho Suh received a BFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and a MFA in sculpture from Yale University. Interested in the malleability of space in both its physical and metaphorical manifestations, Do Ho Suh constructs site-specific installations that question the boundaries of identity. His work explores the relation between individuality, collectivity, and anonymity.”

Steven Alan Padded Scarf

steve alan padded scarf 01 Steven Alan Padded Scarf

An interesting number from Steven Alan. Quilting seems like a good way forward this winter. For retaining warmth and just giving you that puffed up n’ protected feeling there’s nothing better. This one is designed to keep your neck happy but its uses are many: pillow, bottle protector, a quilt for your pet snake. It’s hard to argue with a scarf this versatile. Cotton/nylon mix, a subtle check on one other side, block colour on the reverse, find it a Garbstore.

Peter Mountain Works for Garbstore – Backpacks and Tote Bags

peter mountain works garbstore backpacks totebag 1 Peter Mountain Works for Garbstore Backpacks and Tote Bags

Woodstock NY’s Peter Mountain Works delivers two new shapes for Garbstore. Their overlock backpack and tote bag come in a blue and light brown/tan – choose whichever works best. Both are made in the USA. One change I would love is for the “Made in the U.S.A.” tag to sit right side up when used on the exterior, but that may be a limitation of the actual tag itself for stitching purposes. Well done either way. The tote bags are calling my name.

Louis Vuitton’s beautiful timepiece in video.”Seven crafts performed by hands outlined by daylight. They stitch the skin of a Speedy bag with beeswax-coated yarn, hollow a pea jacket at the waist, sheath the trunk case of a Wardrobe with a creaser, smooth a shoe upper to perfection, scour the contours of a Craquantes jewel, coat the arms of a pair of glasses, file the bevels of a Tambour movement…. Gestures speak. Instruments confer. Words are silent. Passion is revealed.”
