SNS Herning for Spring/Summer 2012 | Looks

SNS Herning with the help of END preview their Spring Summer 2012 offering of fine knitwear. Three garments pop out: The port sweater originally designed for North Sea harbor workers is a layering sweater meant to add that extra insulation in the coldest of times (then again these are Spring items). The classic Stark cardigan made from virgin wool and a bubble-knit texture patter has been in the SNS Herning family since 1971. The classic trim sweater is a navy cut made for rugged wear. Dig in.

Smythson Crocodile Embossed iPad Case

Smythson’s croc-skin iPad case will not break the bank as hard as one would suspect. At $375 it is far less than other luxury iPad cases but still above the mark for many. Break-in will show that this case will last some time. Mr. Porter has it.

LT poster 01 Vintage London Transport Posters

CR Blog introduces us to these stylish posters used to advertise the merits of London Transport. 20 designs from the 1930s and earlier will be on show at the ‘Painting by numbers – making sense of statistics’ exhibition at the London Transport Museum in January. Concerned with promoting the service as well as explaining the cost of providing it (as CR points out ‘no doubt passengers in 1938 were just as upset at fare increases as they are today’), they’re a incredible example of commuter communication at its best.

Red Bull Amsterdam Office by Sid Lee Architecture

Red Bull office1 Red Bull Amsterdam Office by Sid Lee Architecture

Sid Lee Architecture were commissioned to create something a little flashy for Red Bull’s new headquarters in Holland. A former shipbuilding factory, the 875 square metre space is about as far away from your average open-plan as you’d imagine. This is very much a ‘yeah, we hate the rules so don’t try and stick us in a box Grandad’ kind of project.

It’s showy, intent on being ‘rebellious’ but still, undeniably an incredible piece of design. A ‘crash room’, skateboard ramps, geometric caves, mosaic tiled walls, rude toilet signs and airplane wing desks. No doubt the famous beverage on tap, it’s hard to imagine anyone dosing off at work here. More over at Yatzer.

girard pics 01 Alexander Girards Personal Photo Collection

Nowness displays the personal photo collection of designer Alexander Girard. Featuring family and friends on their travels, these vacation snaps have clearly been taken with a creative eye.

Born in NYC, raised in Florence, Alexander travelled extensively throughout his life, picking up ideas and inspiration for his own work and adding to his vast collection of folk art now housed at the Museum of International Folk Art in New Mexico. Girard’s textile work for Herman Miller has become legendary in these mid century obsessed times. Having collaborated with the likes of the Eames’ and Georg Jensen, he stands alongside them in the 20 century hall of design fame.

Selectism - ann-greene-kelly-01

01. Ann Greene Kelly, New York (Pictured)

Backyard Bill’s back with another shoot. A bit shorter than usual, but still great. (Backyard Bill)

02. Sartoria Vergallo: A visit to Varese

“There are a few provincial bespoke tailors in the UK, but not many. Italy has more, though again far fewer than there used to be. The advantage of a provincial tailor is normally a quiet preservation of tradition; and price.” (Permanent Style)

03. Hot Button: A challenge for Jones?

“It’s time to face facts. After Saturday night’s neckchopping of Lyoto Machida, it’s clear that Jon Jones’ level of offense is unprecedented in mixed martial arts, outside of Anderson Silva’s otherworldly assault weapons. Machida had some intriguing successes in the first round, but once Jones flipped the switch in the second stanza, it was Machida’s body collapsing like a demolished building.” (ESPN)

04. 20 Years On: Public Enemy’s Apocalypse 91 The Enemy Strikes Black Revisited

“When the greatness of Public Enemy is discussed – which is often, for the band were, and indeed still are, one of the most consistently inventive, provocative and excellent outfits of the recorded-music-as-business era – the focus inevitably falls on their second and third albums. It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back routinely turns up near the top of the all-time lists assembled by people who care about ensuring their opinions are thought sage; Fear of a Black Planet, its follow-up, is actually its better, though its sonics had been well enough trailed and it perhaps therefore lacked the element of surprise. Yet the band’s fourth LP is almost always overlooked.” (The Quietus)
