Selectism - cocktails-amusebouches-01

We all need a cocktail sometimes. This book will help you make one without the aid of your laptop or smartphone. Tis’ the season to turn off all electrical distractions, after all. We’re not huge fans of the fact that there’s two separate volumes for men and women but, that aside, it looks like it’ll be a great Christmas gift for someone. Or yourself. From Assouline.

Selectism - cigar-style-05

Let’s face it, cigars are incredibly douchey these days. They’re of a bygone era and now the people who use them are 16 years old trying to feel grown up and bankers. But you can celebrate that bygone era in this book, which showcases some famous cigar users and reminisces of a time when a cigar wasn’t shorthand for douchebag. From AssoulineMr Porter has it. Be sure to check out these other titles from Assouline.

Video | Inside the Private Art Gallery and Home of Karen & Christian Boros @fvonf

The first time I drove by the old air raid shelter in Berlin’s mitte district, I asked David Fischer what the hell it was. He then told me about Mr. Christian Boros, the ad exec and art collector in the city, who purchased the bunker after the fall of The Wall. The massive bunker is now his own private art museum, semi open by appointment. I’ve never been so lucky as to get an inside visit. This video from the great FvF takes care of for us. Possibly their best presentation yet.

ONIA Montrose Shoes

ONIA Montrose Shoes

ONIA moves from the water onto the shore with their Montrose shoe offering. They call it a hybrid, fusing the sole of a flip-flop with ONIA’s fast drying upper nylon/cotton fabric. The sole features an espadrille-like stitching pattern and that low “barefoot appealing” profile. Choose from multiple colors as well. The Montrose should land in doors carrying ONIA’s swimline. Take a look and decide for yourself.

Carhartt Heritage Camo Savant Trousers

Carhartt Heritage Camo Savant Trousers

If you history of street fashion going back as far as you can remember (for me that would be the 80’s), camo/DPM patterns have always been there. No matter where you lay – be it street-wear or the high end… camo remains a re-played device of the fashion world. It has not come and gone as a trend; the patterns, while re-worked and re-imagined, have remained  almost seasonal. Is there another pattern in fashion that retains such high/low appeal (and please don’t say stripes)?

While many will look at the “heritage” tagline against any brand with a raised brow in 2011, one cannot deny that a dash of camouflage seems to reset opinions. Take these pants from the Carhartt Heritage Autumn Winter 2011 collection: the simple chino breathes again with out much work. Sure, we’ve seen camo on slim-cut BDU’s and chinos before and we’re will to bet you will see them again. Goodhood has these.
