Here’s something for the folks who are tired of the rather limited choice of popular shoes at the moment. Don’t get us wrong, we like the oxford, the derby, the brogue – even the monkstrap has its charms. But you’re guaranteed to stand out in a pair of Chelsea boots. Fubiz lets us know about Guy Laramee’s latest project, entitled The Great Wall. Laramee’s carved scenes out of a stack of books, creating mountains, temples and oceans. It’s the sort of thing that’s enjoyed without needless commentary, so take a leap and see it for yourself.

Here’s a look at Henrique Oliveira’s latest work ‘Tridimensional’. It’s one for the fans of larger than life art, with tree trunk sculptures so large that they appear to be bursting through the walls of galleries.

In his pre blockbuster days Stanley Kubrick found himself taking snaps on the streets of 1940s New York. Age 17 he sold his first piece to Look magazine and soon found himself on their books as a freelance photojournalist.  ”From 1946 to 1950, Kubrick worked for the magazine, completing more than 300 assignments documenting the sights and people of New York City”. With an obvious filmic quality to this early work, these shots are full of drama, movement and the sense of a storyline in motion. More at The Inspiration Grid.

Crane tv speaks to British architect David Chipperfield (CBE, RA, RDI, RIBA). Best known for his work on Berlin’s Neues Museum, he currently holds offices in London, Berlin, Shanghai and Milan. “Esteemed British architect David Chipperfield is renowned as one of the country’s most innovative designers. Most recently he worked with the German Embassy on the Hier and There project, and here talks to Crane.tv about his design aesthetic and the importance of one of his most famous structures – the reconstructed Neues Museum in Berlin.”

Thought we’d get into a little eccentric eyewear for Thursday lunchtime. Floral shirts? pah!* Some shirts have one flower, even two. But we need an entire forest to satisfy our horticultural clothing needs. Valentino, that perma-tanned gift from God, gets us. He’s given us the forest on a shirt, which is what we need in these tough times. (Colette)

We’ll be honest, we’re not that into tents. Not because we’re uppity or anything, we’ve just gotten bored of camping at festivals. But if we were to get back into that sort of thing, we’d do it in one of these Fieldcandy tents. We’re having trouble picking one favourite, but this book version gets our vote for now.
