Something a bit twisted this holiday season from Anthony Bourdain: the story of Krampus, the whip toting sidekick or Santa… It is a bit dark but viewable enough. If your children were to watch “Krampus Carol,” they would either be scared out of naughty or slightly upset. Heed cation.

03. A History of Wester Typefaces

“You see approximately 490,000 words every day — and that’s just on the web. If the designers behind those websites are any good, they put a lot of thought into the typefaces they use on each page. Fonts don’t just display letters as words and sentences. They convey emotion, attitude and tone. They call out what information is most important and help you navigate through a site. Hate Comic Sans? You’re not alone. There are plenty of reasons for despising the font, according to many fontographers and font enthusiasts. Love Helvetica? You’re not alone — many designers love its clean and simple aesthetic. The infographic … presents a history of typefaces, incorporating fun tidbits from tech, pop culture and the web. Do you know what font the Google logo is? What about Facebook? Take a peek below to learn these and more.”(mashable)

Selectism - chimney-house-incense-holder-01

We’ve had our ups and downs with incense. On one hand, they remind us of our teenage years (don’t ask why). On the other hand, these mini house holders are so cool that we’re tempted to start buying the stuff again. We might even give up our fancy candle habit for a bit. (Spoon & Tamago)

Selectism - microphone-speaker-01

We’re all about the unnecessary necessary stuff here, which is why this microphone shaped speaker is right up our alley. It’s not exactly an essential but it looks really cool, which is our main criteria for buying anything. And it should be yours too. And hey, if you’re gonna play your music out loud on public transport it might as well be on a device that makes your iphone look even cooler. (Yanko Design)
