brooklyncircus 01 The Brooklyn Circus 1920 Sweater

Garbstore have recently received a batch of goods from The Brooklyn Circus, we think these guys are the first to stock in the brand in the UK so well done to them. “Founded by graphic designer Ouigi Theodore and developed by an arsenal of visionaries fueled by a common purpose, this bustling junction of style and character is always an experience”. A label making some interesting moves, this 100% lambswool football/varsity/college sweater is a great example of their fine repros.

steerable sled 01 Slalom Steerable Sled

Is it snowing where you are? Do you like careering down slopes at high speed? Did you enjoy that bit at the end of Citizen Kane? If so may we recommend this incredible Sled.  5/8″ thick marine-grade molded plywood, the front section pivots, controlled by a steering rope. Apparently it holds two adults or three children. We’d ride this one solo and strap a mini-fridge on the back for in-flight snacks. That’s just how we do on a sled. Find yours here.

Red Wing Heritage 4563 Boots for Nordstrom

Red Wing Heritage 4563 Boots for Nordstroms

When we look at the accessibility of the products that get shine on Selectism, we may occasionally forget that while everyone can see these goods online, holding them in very hand may not be that easy to some. So it is important to reference goods as they deliver in special editions to some of the wide retail chains across the U.S.A – especially when they rival the look and durability of Red Wing’s  found in any men’s boutique.

The Red Wing Heritage 4563 Boot is a prime example. The 8-inch farmer’s boot is based on one of the early 1919 models – carries the white Red Wing sole found on all their farmer boots. Find it at Nordstrom.

Levi’s Japan, Harris Tweed Tote Bag

levis harris tweed tote bag 0 Levis Japan, Harris Tweed Tote Bag

Merry Christmas this fine Sunday. I hope all those celebrating have done it right and fattened up, opened gifts of a decent order and/or went out there and volunteered your time for a good cause.  But product don’t sleep for the holidays, so we’ll bring you just one for today.

We’re borrowing it from our relatives over on Highsnob who seem to never rest (then again, today may not be their holiday – we love them of course for working though). Levi’s Japan worked up this tote bag from what could have been Harris Tweed remnants over at the factory. Nothing too grand about it, but for some still looking to add a dash of tweed on this Christmas, it may well work.

Family Takes Clever Christmas Card Photo

Happy Hanukkah and Christmas from all of ours to yours.

01. Spent reunited for night 2 of Yo La Tengo’s Hanukkah party
“Looks like Mac McCaughan (of Superchunk, Portastatic and Merge Records) had more than one reason (so far) for spending Hanukkah in Hoboken with Yo La Tengo again this year. His old friends Spent, who reunited in 2009 for Merge’s 20th Anniversary, were the openers for Yo La Tengo on Wednesday (the second night of Hanukkah), along with comedians Bobcat Goldthwait (!) and Neil Innes (!). Smokey Hormel is guest YLT guitarist.” (brooklynvegan)

02. Family Takes Clever Christmas Card Photo

“It’s never too early to start thinking about how to send your well-wishes over the holidays, and what better strategy than the funny family photo? Granted, they’re difficult to pull off, but just use this family’s perfect 10 as a guide and you’ll be on the right track.” (huffpo>reddit)

03. Cookie recipes for Christmas or any day

“So I’ve set myself a challenge. Over the next year, I’m going to learn how to bake. And I’m going to learn from my Grammy. I haven’t decided exactly how thoroughly I’m going to publicly document this process, but, suffice to say, a few of the recipes that work out particularly well are definitely going to end up here on BoingBoing. To kick things off, I’m starting with three cookie recipes that I baked for the first time yesterday and today—Cowboy Cookies (oatmeal-nut-chocolate chip cookies); Pumpkin-Nut Cookies; and Jam Thumbprint Tarts. ” (boing)

‘Erratic’ Book

Selectism - erratic-book-01

More juice for the design heads out there. Erratic covers the topic of visual impact in design, showcasing how ‘movement, tension, balance, and surprise are increasingly explored in today’s visual culture’. In layman’s terms, that’s design that aims to shock you into paying attention or looking closer at it. Or, in terms we understand, it’s a book that looks pretty. (Gestalten)

See a couple of examples after the leap.

Selectism - sacai-blazer-01

We wonder if proxies work on bonus points, like a Sainsbury’s Nectar card? If they did this would be a great time to take advantage of all those nectar points by ordering a spring-ready blazer. We hate giving out obvious advice but use it as a layer in January and on its own come spring time. Any other usage will result in you spontaneously combusting. (Mindtrive)

Burberry Black Label Autumn Winter 2011

23 December 2011, 16.00 | Posted in Fashion | 3 comments »

burberry black 01 Burberry Black Label Autumn Winter 2011

Burberry’s Japan only Black Label continues to be all elusive and mysterious to those of us residing outside of Asia. This look at Autumn Winter reveals plenty of high quality casual wear aimed at a younger audience. The standard duffle appears in black wool, sheepskin and aran cardigan forms. Wide stripes, fur trimmed parkas and plenty of slim legged trousers, alongside crew necks of various hues. Nice and simple, more at EMM.
