PS by Paul Smith Floral Shirt

Selectism - paul-smith-floral-shirt-01

There’s been a full season of floral shirts now and it looks like things have started to calm down on the pattern front, if this shirt is anything to go by. A lot of floral options this year have been on the loud side, so we don’t blame anyone if they wanted to sit back and wait on some more subdued options. Despite the fact that it almost looks tie-dyed, this shirt is still more laid-back than most options earlier this year. Perfect for the trend toe-dipper out there. (Mr Porter)

Ghurka Fine Leather Bags from Connecticut

Ghurka’s origins begin in Connecticut (hello!) sometime around 1975 when designer, Marley Hodgson took his love for fine British leatherworks and applied it to belts and accessories. More than 30 years on, Ghurka continues in the fine tradition of its past with a very wide selection of leather bags. We take a look at items from Ghurka’s Original Leather offering, which is sure to catch the eye of many out there.

Now that it is a bit later to order online, you may consider visiting Ghurka’s NYC shop at The Sherry Netherland, 781 Fifth Avenue.

The final installment in Conversations in Modernism, part three sees writer/editor Jason Jules and artist Justin Gibbs sit at a wooden table and thrash out matters of style, art, architecture and the coming and going of trends. Jules edits UK Street Style and contributes to GQ Style. Gibbs creates pieces influenced by modernist structures in both 2 and 3 dimensions. Possibly our favourite of the series, much thoughtful chatter at the press of play.

Method Design Journeyman Trunk for Denham

denham case 01 Method Design Journeyman Trunk for Denham

Scotland’s Method Design “As solid and surprising as a Glasgow Kiss”, create luxury handmade furniture from their Glencoe workshop. Marissa, an architect and Callum,  a second generation cabinetmaker aim to create innovative pieces with a nod to traditional design and methods. With the dedicated denim head in mind they created this intricate Ash framed structure for Denham.

A one off for the 100% Design Exhibition, entitled “a Steamer Trunk for a Jeanmaker”. With those traditional travelling trunks in mind from the days when travel was a bit more glamorous than a printed e-ticket, this is a quality piece of craftsmanship with more drawers, shelves, engineered fixings and interconnected joints then you can shake a stick at.

Toda House by Kimihiko Okada

jpn house 01 Toda House by Kimihiko Okada

This Hiroshima house has had the unfortunate affect of making our own places feel like a pile of sad damp cereal boxes. This incredible project is the work of Kimihiko Okada. Perched literally on a series of pedestals, this curved structure is elevated above its neighbours, showing off as it rightfully should. With a feel of 50s America about it, it overlooks sea, city and mountain. We’d spend most of our time looking inwards, just walking around leering at the place itself.

The building is effectively a long winding corridor, widening and narrowing at various points, it’s lucky residents have used the space perfectly. Spoon and Tomago tell us more.

steven harrington 01 Steven Harringtons You & I Porcelain Sculpture

Steven Harrington is an L.A based artist and designer who creates amazing pieces with a bit of a colourful folk art feel. This sculpture was made in collaboration with Toykyo studio, a Ghent based office who deal in an equally colour obsessed range of graphics and aim to “fill the world with beautiful objects and spread happiness one collaboration at a time”.

A perfect match, the duo release this porcelain piece as a limited edition of 25, with 5 dropping at Collete, Paris anytime now. “An intricate, yet flowing design piece. This latest porcelain piece creates a dialogue between the sculpture and the viewer where there’s an instant connection between you, the sculpture and the artist.” Fine work indeed.
