Selectism - Tod's iPad Cases in Alligator Skin and More

The iPad market takes another step in the very high end with Tod’s take on the modern day device. As Luxist tells us. “Famed Italian luxury goods firm Tod’s is offering world’s most expensive iPad case, which in this case is actually in excellent taste. The luxurious case, finished in genuine alligator, is priced at $4,900 – almost ten times the cost of Apple’s un-embellished 16GB iPad itself. The one-of-a-kind accessory is handmade in Italy from the world’s finest grade alligator skin, and will be available in brown, blue and tan from Tod’s boutiques worldwide beginning in November.”

Selectism - Wrangler Blue Bell Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

Wrangler Blue Bell (for the Eu market) continues to refine their collection for Autumn 2010. “The Fall/Winter 2010/11 collection is dark as night, inspired by rockabilly perfectionism, the 80s-influenced-by-the-50s, and thrift store Americana. Colours are black, grey and white, with dark indigo a signature of the brand.” Tony Ward models the collection.

Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2011

Selectism - Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2011

The looks keep flowing in. Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2011 runway photos have arrived. As usual, the collection large enough to fill a catalog so we’ll limit it to some of our favorites. As you’ll see from the image above, some of our favorite looks came from the men’s bags that accent the men’s ready to wear collection. As wwd tells it, “Washed denim bags were printed with a larger-scale monogram pattern or a massive archive logo. Printed shirts and scarves had logos integrated into chinoiserie designs interpreted by tattoo artist Scott Campbell. A sense of travel and adventure permeated the functional constructions and lightweight fabrics, said to be inspired by parachuters. Exotic looking jackets came in pebbled leather or colored python, while Damier check nylon bags hatched in reptilian green and electric blue.”

Selectism Q&A | Manufacturing in New York

selectism - Selectism Q&A | Manufacturing in New York

Undoubtedly, the recent and regularly publicized trend for Americana has created new reverence for locally made and manufactured garments. A number of brands following that notion regularly escape our full attention. To that end, Cary Randolph Fuller spent a bit of time chatting with a few of the folks in New York dedicated to Big Apple production.

The purpose of the Q&A is two fold – one, to give voice to smaller brands and two, investigate the process they go through as emerging entities. A third reason behind our Q&A was to get a little feminine perspective on Selectism. We’re male heavy, and though the subject might not be directly geared to the lady, Cary’s concern and interest in menswear differs from ours.

The focus here might be New York and the City might have garment trade advantages over other locales, however there are universal lessons that may be useful/inspiring to people across the United States.

What follows is a discussion with Adele Berne and Mike Kuhle of Epaulet, Eunis Lee, Mordechai Rubinstein, and Roy Dank. Above is an example from Roy Dank’s The Wurst Editions. Pieces from the others are peppered throughout the Q&A.

Selectism - Wrangler Blue Bell Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Workwear “inspired” fashions continue to run through 2010. The Wrangler “Blue Bell” collection pushes forward this Spring with more grit ready looks. “Premium denim brand Blue Bell strikes back with a second season inspired by vintage denim, by the contrast of harsh washes against clean preppy styling, and by the 1950s. Blue Bell mixes the best of denim heritage with modern styling. For Spring/Summer 2010, the collection takes a bolder approach to design.”

Wrangler Blue Bell (EU) Coming July 13

wrangler blue bell 01 Wrangler Blue Bell (EU) Coming July 13

So we’re not usually inclined to cover the launch of websites without being able to offer much of a visual preview but on July 13th, Wrangler is opening the doors on their Blue Bell Europe website which will showcase the re-launch of the line (for A/W 2009) in a manner which we consider unique. Yeah, it’s a bitch we cannot really show you the interactivity of the site but we’re certain it will turn some heads once it is officially launched for Europe. Imagine scenes from a movie with the end user being able to visually adjust garments on the characters.

Ok, well we took one screenshot to show you, but it does not give away much. See it after the jump.

Neil Barrett Chambray Shirt

neil barrett chambray shirt Neil Barrett Chambray Shirt

In case you hadn’t noticed, Chambray’s pretty popular right now. We’ve seen every style you could think of – from shawl collars to see through patterns – but sometimes less is more. This Neil Barrett chambray (The one man denim encylopaedia that is Kiya tells us below that isn’t chambray, we had our suspicions – but this confirms it) shirt isn’t as over embellished as other versions out there but there’s a lot to be said for its simplicity. We don’t mind short sleeved shirts, but we do advise that you roll up the sleeves to maintain your cool. Get it from Start.
