Workers Feb 12 01 Workers (Japan) for Feb. 2012 Chore Jackets, Denim Tote, and More

Back again with this months collection, Workers and their fine repro inspired wares. The latest line includes; A polka dot Stifel inspired shirt complete with pocket watch hole. A hickory striped ‘Queen of the Road’ chore jacket a play on Lee’s ‘Boss of the Road’ perhaps. A seersucker blazer, also available in navy cotton. Casual, buckle back chinos and finally our favourite, a denim tote based on the front panel on a pair of Hercules dungarees (or overalls depending on which side of the pond you reside).  The kind of item that on paper sounds pretty dodgy but ends up being brilliant. Another fine lot from Workers.

Bespoke Post – Box of Awesome – Alchemy

bespoke post box of awesome 2 Bespoke Post Box of Awesome Alchemy

We are gentleman, but are always a little wary of those seeking to make gentleman out of others via Drapery instruction manuals and novelty cufflinks. That being said, Bespoke Post’s “Box of Awesome”—a $45 subscription-based box of themed accoutrements designed to boost your gentlemanly quotient—isn’t the worst idea we’ve heard. “Box of Awesome” sounds a little more Maxim than GQ, but the surprises inside are a little more on-point. This month’s mailing is called “Alchemy” and includes a two-piece cocktail shaker, a strainer, a jigger, a barspoon, an ice-cue tray and some Angostrura bitters. -jt

n.d.c. Belts and Bags – Spring/Summer 2012 – Looks

n.d.c. Belts and Bags - Spring/Summer 2012 - Looks

As we mentioned yesterday, n.d.c. is a Belgian company that produces some handsome handmade shoes for lads and lasses. What we left out is that they also make belts, bags and keyrings. Don’t think we’ve turned many cartwheels over the latter item, but belts and bags sure are fun. These bags look sharp, sturdy and almost freakishly soft—prefect pillows for airport terminals, perhaps. The belts seem to be everything a belt should be: not too thick, not too skinny; a little worn in and rustic without looking dead.

Since we’re here again, it seems prudent to mention that, along with keeping a sense of humor about their endeavors, n.d.c. has pledged to eschew trends and hew to individuality. Hard to exact concrete evidence of that from a single lookbook, but the big suede duffels do carry the air of an intriguing stranger working the fringes of a cocktail party. Also alluring, n.d.c. have proprietary concoctions of natural waxes and oils used for finishing. Flagship stores are in Brussels and Paris if you want to check the softness for yourself. -jt

Overade Foldable Bicycle Helmets

Overade Foldable Bicycle Helmets

Designboom points us this work by Partrick Jouffret of Agency 360. Jourffret collaborated with engineer, Phillippe Arrount on concepts for these foldable bicycle helmets. The aim with the packaway helmet is to ease the number of cyclists who do not commute with one (as crazy as that sounds). Originally prototyped in 2010, the Overade helmets look to be headed to production this year.

Haerfest Cowhide Spring/Summer 2012 Backpack

haerfest backpack 01 Haerfest Cowhide Spring/Summer 2012 Backpack

We featured Haerfest a while back, a brand who bring a bit of  understated luxury to the man bag game. Leather packs can often come off a little 70s music festival, especially those of the tan variety. Using some less expected colourways the New York brothers, Dan and Tim Joo, avoid any dowdy associations. Modern through and through, all their goods come with practical little touches such as two way back straps and handles that go from long to short with the twist of a clasp. This all cowhide number is a great example of keeping design simple is often a winning line. Find it at LN-CC.

Cuppow – Turns a Canning Jar into a Travel Mug

31 January 2012, 23.00 | Posted in Accessories, Design | 1 comment »

cuppow canning jar travel mug 4 Cuppow Turns a Canning Jar into a Travel Mug

This is genius! Cuppow is the latest product to come out of the great Fringe Union space in Somerville, MA. Designer, and Selectism columnists, Aaron Panone and his friend Josh Resnikoff designed the Cuppow to modify and turn the ordinary canning jar into a proper travel mug. Clearly there was a need for this. I myself, like many, use a plain glass canning jar as a water glass and for coffee.

In fact, it will work better than a travel mug based on the seal alone. Drip f’n free. In their own words:

The canning jar already makes an awesome platform for a travel mug: it’s easy to clean, made of heat-resistant glass, cheap, durable, and when sealed it doesn’t leak. The only problem is that with their large openings, canning jars are not great for spill-free sipping while on the move. So we adapted it – made a new lid that lets us drink like a boss from virtually any wide-mouth canning jar.

The Cuppow is BPA-free, made in Minnesota, and costs $8. This is awesome.
