Brimfield 2011 Opening Day Oddities

brimfield antiques 2011 may 29 Brimfield 2011 Opening Day Oddities

This writer is less than 1.5 hours from the big ole Brimfield Antiques Show, which went into full swing this past Tuesday. By our own admission, day one may give you access to only half of the market, as the large fields open up Thursday, but it was clear from the troves of those in the business on-site for one of their annual “inpsiration” getaways that there was still much to be seen.

I, for one, went hunting for a coffee table and a rug  of which I walked away only with a Persian sennah. Other, much more. Here’s a photo sampling of some of the oddities seen on site. For those that missed this week’s show, fear not: you have two more opportunities coming in July and in September.

Curated turns us onto this. This definitely isn’t an excuse to use the phrase ‘great wall of vaginas’.

“On view through the month of May at the Brighton Festival Fringe, Jamie McCartney’s pubic sculpture celebrates the individuality of some 400 women. The “Great Wall of Vaginas” is a project going on five years, spanning thirty feet in length, and including models ranging in age from 18-76.”

Curated turns us onto this tidbit:

“Amuse Bouche is a glimpse into the intensely imaginative world of Montréal’s emerging contemporary visual artists. The exhibition, opening on May 6, 2011 features the works of four Montréal-based artists and marks their New York debuts. The artists are Tim Bernard, JP King, Alan Ganev and Nathan Brown — each using different techniques, presenting a distinguished showcase including illustration, printing, painting, collage and digital graphics.”

Evol

Selectism - EVOL+2-540x405

Curated turns us onto this:

“Berlin-based Evol turns banal urban objects into intricate takes on banal urban design. Essentially, he transforms an ordinary electric box into a miniature skyscraper, or council house flat. His work blends into the environment well, forcing contemplation and brilliantly melding into his chosen artistic landscape directly commenting on space and managing to divert eyes away from the everyday.”
