Curated turns us onto this. “Henry Wessel discusses his process, with focus on how he began shooting directly from his car. His photographs are among the best documents of the American scene, and the video includes some tremendous works.”

We’re not usually in the business of just posting up hotel rooms willy-nilly but, as you can see, this isn’t just any hotel room. As much as we enjoy the pictures, part of us would be terrified of actually taking the room. We’ve seen Deep Blue Sea far too many times to think some tough glass will stop those fish if they get angry. (Fubiz)

Curated lets us know about this exhibition:
“On view at The Morgan Library through October 2, 2011, Lists takes a humorous look at a ubiquitous part of our daily lives.
From the weekly shopping list to the Ten Commandments, our lives are full of lists—some dashed off quickly, others beautifully illustrated, all providing insight into the personalities and habits of their makers. The exhibition celebrates this most common form of documentation by presenting an array of lists made by a broad range of artists, from Pablo Picasso and Alexander Calder to H. L. Mencken, Eero Saarinen, Elaine de Kooning, and Lee Krasner. With examples such as Picasso’s picks for the great artists of his age (Gris, Léger, etc.), H. L. Mencken’s autobiographical facts (“I never have a head-ache from drink”), and Robert Smithson’s collection of quotations about spirals, the items on view are intriguing, revealing, humorous, and poignant.”

Curated lets us know about this:
“With a magnificent sense of color and composition, photographer Peter Gates’ work has potential to brighten any interior. He’s inspired by the sculptural qualities of his own environment, which signs true in each of his photos. ArtStar currently offers four works by the artist, including the super “Shower” shown above.”

Curated lets us know about this:
“Eleven portraits make up Men Only, a solo showing of Philadelphia-born painter Alice Neel on view through July 29, 2011 at London’s Victoria Miro Gallery. Neel’s range as a portraitist is the thrust of the exhibition, her subjects shown displaying attitudes hinting at the ironic and the erotic, and most everything in between. In its concise nature, Men Only proves why Neel (born in 1900) is considered amongst the foremost portrait painters of her time.”

Curated turns us onto this:
“Artist Christine Berrie has this to say of her 12 Bicycle Drawings, “Over the last few years, I have been creating collections of drawings as a way of visually documenting various objects that some people perceive as prosaic, but which actually give those who use them great joy and pleasure. When considering new subject matter, I choose items that will allow me to incorporate a lot of detail in my drawings. When creating 12 Bicycles, I was happy to experience a similar joy as I observed and rendered the details of components such as the spokes, chainrings and cabling.”

Curated lets us know about this:
“On July 15, 2011 LeBasse Projects will unveil the first major solo exhibition from Australian artist Melissa Haslam. Haslam, who has shown in group shows throughout the United States, will share paintings exploring her fascination with the Kigurumi seen. Participants in Kigurumi fashion themselves as living stuffed animals, wearing what they call “disguised pajamas.” Haslam, employing oil, presents young women dressed in full costume with great delicacy and an intimacy that proves her interest in the subculture includes some reverence as well.”

Curated lets us know about this:
“From July 16, 2011, LeBasse Projects will share the work of Art Center College of Design graduate Andrew Hem. Hem’s latest paintings explore isolation, presenting figures in lush, rugged landscapes. With elements that suggest anticipation, Hem’s work is a departure from a 2010 series focused on his Cambodian heritage. Here his clouds feature, if you will, a silver lining. It is work with occasional dark edges, but ultimately a happy thrust.”

Curated puts us onto this exhibition:
“Akio Hirata has been making hats for 70 years. The longevity of career and skill in hand-production prompting not just impetus for a retrospective, but also inventiveness at the hand of exhibition designers Nendo. To make Hirat’s hats “pop” the firm placed them within a sea of mass produced, specially made fabric hats. These hats, referred to as ghost hats, form an environmental cloud allowing visitors to explore Hirata’s work and achievement at their own pace and with their own trajectory.”
