“The Little Book of Big Breasts” and More Little Things from Taschen

24 April 2012, 21.00 | Posted in Art, Books & Magazines | No comments »

littl book of big breasts front 1 The Little Book of Big Breasts and More Little Things from Taschen

It seems appropriate to return to Taschen’s best selling series on all things boobs, butts and penis.

We shared with you their Big Book of Pussy and more not too long ago but our good friends at CH point us at some fresh releases from the series in more handful and manageable sizes. Two new titles in smaller format are coming this summer: Little Book of Big Breasts The Little Book of Big Breasts and More Little Things from Taschen and Little Book of Big Penis The Little Book of Big Breasts and More Little Things from Taschen feature the same ideals of their “bigger” book brothers and sisters but in new compact sizes that condense down into 150 pages or so of imagery on the subject matters, with more than 40% of the content exclusive to these editions.

And as usual, the photography found within both new volumes are no where near safe for posting on these here pages. We’ll leave the exploration to you. Both Little Books are published by Taschen this coming June and will available from Amazon The Little Book of Big Breasts and More Little Things from Taschen.

We share full looks at the covers on the following page.

“The Ruins of Detroit” Photography Book

the ruins of detroit photo book steidl 03 The Ruins of Detroit Photography Book

We first mentioned the photo work of Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre back in 2010 when their exhibition, “The Ruins of Detroit” opened at the Stockholm’s Gun Gallery. Those photos collected and shared with the world the absolute architectural history of Detroit city and the unfortunate state of ruin that many of the metropolis’ buildings stood. Those images and moe are now collected in the new book under the same name.

The Ruins of Detroit The Ruins of Detroit Photography Book features more than 180 color plates depicting the duo’s work and should be considered a document into the fall of a once beautiful city – which we hope will very soon turn around and return to its glory. Published by Steidl. Available from Amazon The Ruins of Detroit Photography Book.

Jordan Sullivan – Natural History

23 April 2012, 18.10 | Posted in Art | No comments »

jordan sullivan natural history 1 Jordan Sullivan Natural History
An exhibit that seeks to spelunk the plummeting double-helix of memory and history, “Natural History” by Texas-born Jordan Sullivan marks the the artist’s first solo New York show.

Flipping through the photographs on Sullivan’s website conjures the presence of that so-potent memory-maker, the road trip, in a familiar haze of youthful abandon. Natural History deals with its subject matter through two “narratives” and, in kind, the second half finds him “interrogating his own recent history … Photographs of friends, family, and lovers are inscribed with handwritten text [like] “I’m drinking till I smell like my old man …” The first portion of the exhibit examines his paternal grandparents’ time in Europe during World War II.

The show opens May 17th at Manhattan’s Underline Gallery and while it is on display, the gift shop will become a sound booth where visitors can record tidbits from their own personal histories.

Hedi Slimane – Latest Images – Dustin Hoffman

Hedi 15 Apr 01 540x375 Hedi Slimane Latest Images Dustin Hoffman

Keeping up with Hedi Slimane’s many photographic adventures would be a pretty time-consuming activity, however this latest update is worth a mention if just for the exceptional images of Dustin Hoffman. It’s safe to say any initial cycnicism about Slimane’s photography career has been put to rest. While his work may not be to everyone’s taste it’s hard to deny the man possesses a talent behind the lens. Hoffman is pretty much Hollywood royalty, for cool points it has to be Midnight Cowboy but for sheer transformation skills you can’t go far wrong with Tootsie. Check out Slimane’s images in our gallery for some serious black and white action.

“Bunny Yeager’s Beautiful Backsides” Book

bunny yeager beautiful backsides book 10 Bunny Yeagers Beautiful Backsides Book

Bunny Yeager, born Linnea Eleanor Yeager, may have modeled for some time but is more famous for her work behind the camera. She played a key role in 1954 while photographing the soon to be world famous pin-up model, Betti Page. But her work photographing pin-up and beautiful women alike did not stop with Ms. Page. Over the years she explored the female form in the studio and beyond.

Beautiful Backsides Bunny Yeagers Beautiful Backsides Book is a new photography book collecting Yeager’s photography of the “female derriere.” The photography book Bunny Yeagers Beautiful Backsides Book spans 1950’s through the 1970’s and features more than 213 images shot just about everywhere. Bunny Yeager’s models do bare all. Our photo gallery of the book is definitely labeled with the big ole NSFW. Published by Schiffer Publishing. Available now from Amazon Bunny Yeagers Beautiful Backsides Book.

The Whitney Biennial 2012: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

whitney biennial 2012 12 The Whitney Biennial 2012: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

The 73rd edition of The Whitney Biennial is currently running at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and, as writer Laura Feinstein tells us, the show is a difficult one to sum up in short form:

“It would be impossible to fully encapsulate the scope of the Whitney Biennial in a simple sentence. Made up of artists young and old at various stages of their careers (even careening into the posthumous), the Biennial is meant to be a celebration of a diverse range of work, often overlooked by the general public. While reviewers have been quick to fawn over their favorites (if you read enough reviews you could even start to believe the Biennial is only composed of about five artists), the key to judging its success is by the impression it leaves on you.”

Issue 2 of UK’s Used Magazine features British actress, model, and Marilyn look alike, Suzie Kennedy. Clearly not the first time Kennedy has posed in homage to the great American bombshell, but like all other photographs depicting her as Marilyn Monroe, we are sent back in time as the Kennedy’s resemblance to her is just that damn close.

Malick Sidibe Photo Exhibition at agnes b. galerie New York

We stopped in at the opening reception for Malick Sidibe’s photography exhibition at the agnes b. galerie in SOHO, New York City. The exhibition showcases a selection of Sidibé’s street and nightlife images from Bamako, Mali, during the 1960’s and 1970’s as well as his rare collection of vintage prints. Mr. Sidibé was one of the few photographers documenting the period before Mali’s independence from France in 1960.

Sidibé’s new book, The Portrait of Mali Malick Sidibe Photo Exhibition at agnes b. galerie New York collecting his photography from the period is out now on the Rizzoli imprint. Amazon Malick Sidibe Photo Exhibition at agnes b. galerie New York has it.
