Watch | The Derelicts – Refashioned Classics

17 February 2012, 17.30 | Posted in auto, videos | No comments »
http://www.vimeo.com/35461693

An incredible little film from eGarage focusing on Icon4×4 in Los Angeles who remake classic cars to create something extraordinary. As much about the passion and obsessive attention to detail as the car itself, its founder Jonathan Ward loves the aesthetic of vintage cars, the more beat up the better, but lost patience with the upkeep that comes with an archaic engine. So, under the hood you’ll find modern workings that allow the car to be driven everyday whilst the outside remains authentically worn and torn. These are the Derelicts. Thanks to Vintage Workwear for the heads up.

2013 porsche macan suv concept Porsches New SUV is the Macan Coming in 2013

Porsche is set to deliver a new SUV vehicle in 2013. The Porsche Macan is the fifth model in the automaker’s portfolio and the first to come off their newly revamp production line in Leipzig which includes “a fully-fledged production plant including body assembly line and paint shop.”

The name “Macan” itself is a word form from the maker that follows their tradition of linking vehicle names with their corresponding characteristics: “The name Macan is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger and combines suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics – core characteristics of the new off-road car.”

Look for the new Porsche Macan SUV in 2013.

More from the ICON 4×4’s Jonathan Ward. Building off of episode one, “Icons & Derelict”  now moves onto “derelicts,” vehicles that retain their original look and “patina” but are outfitted with modern chassis, engines, and tech. An example in the video is a 1952 Chrysler Town and Country that was also featured in this article in Hot Rod Magazine. Gourmet put this video together.

Gourmet delivers a new video series, “Icons & Derelict” with the first episode featuring ICON 4×4’s Jonathan Ward. ICON 4×4 is an aggressive little company that delivers some very high end takes on the utility trucks. The price of gas aside, these little ICON tanks are beautiful.

porsche posters 01 1950s Porsche Advertisements

Yeah yeah, we know, 1950s design this, midcentury that. Try as you might you can’t avoid it. However, there’s no question that things just tended to look pretty slick back then and it’s testament to this golden era that much of what came out of the decade has stood the test of time. These Porsche posters are a classic example, listen up advertisers, this is how its done. More at Retronaut.

Autoblog gives us a full run down on the special edition, 252-hp, Audi A1 Quattro. The sub-compact ultra-performance hatch back from Audi is a great addition to the world of super-charged vehicles: “As its name would imply, the A1 Quattro comes equipped with the automaker’s legendary all-wheel-drive system, with power provided by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder used in theS3. BMW i8 05 BMWi Electric Car Launch at Art Basel Miami

When BMW ventured into the electric car market you knew this wasn’t going to be a Herbie-with-a plug situation.

Alongside design authority Dwell, the German manufacturer hosted The Sustaethics Event at Art Basel Miami. ‘A celebration of sustainable design and the future of mobility’. The stars of the show were the incredible BMW i3 and i8 concept cars, 3 years in the making for Benoit Jacob, head designer of BMW i.

Set against a background of sustainability of environmental awareness, the venue featured a forested backdrop of 500 trees, designed by Miami-based architect Chad Oppenheim, which were part of a charity donation to local charity Treemendous. “The idea behind this project was to figure out a way to celebrate sustainability with BMW i and Dwell and to give something back to the city,”
