Rem The Lamp

Selectism - Rem The Lamp

This dropped into our inbox recently. We may be a bit slow to report on it, but we still love showcasing innovative design that melds multiple areas of interest. Christian Vivanco has designed Rem the Lamp. “Rem (means brake in dutch) is an exercise that reflects an intense research about interaction with the object created, where its configuration answers to an invitation to touch, to experiment and play. The clear inspiration based on components used in bicycles was not the starting point for the development of the product; the real beginning emerged trying to find a pretext for the binding (connection) of 2 functional items that never faced each other before, 2 systems that work without any problems in their environment and were able to carry a fluid conversation within this new space.”

Selectism - Brooks Spring Saddle Seat Stools

I do not think we’ve ever had a post title with 4 “S” words in a row. Another INTERBIKE find were these Brooks Spring Saddle seats stools – at the Brooks booth. They’re not for sale but we’re sure you can cook them up yourselves with some local builders. Most important of all is that they’re a comfortable custom option for your bar. Drink beer.

curated mag - Bike Rides at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Bike culture, arguably, has reached an all-time high in the United States. Art related to two wheeled adventure and transport appears quite regularly, but rarely with the scope presented in Bike Rides. Now on view at Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, the exhibition presents a multi-media and multi-medium view of the bicycle in contemporary culture. From the purely art based object to concept bicycles, the range both impressive and provides a comprehensive overview of current thinking about the bike, sustainability, and urban travel. The project was organized by the museum’s curators with consulting advice from artist and cyclist David Byrne. Learn more direct from the Aldrich.

On view until January 3, 2010.

Selectism - Raleigh "High Life" Cyclocross Bike

To be honest this new cyclocross bike seen at INTERBIKE a few weeks ago may not be a true Miller collaboration but for all those “High Life” drinkers reading Selectism, we’re throwing it out there. Raleigh is introducing this new Miller High Life inspired color way cyclocross (ss) bike to the masses. The CX bike includes a nice Easton fork. Run it single speed on the course for some more fun.

More images of the Raleigh “High Life” Cyclocross Bike as well as a few of the PBR version after the click.

selectism - Outlier Workwear Pant

Outlier’s workwear pants have hit full production. Designed for function (like all Outlier product, these have the cyclist in mind), the trouser is built from Outlier doubleweave canvas. What, exactly is that? The outer weave is a durable Cordora canvas, while the inner is brushed for canvas. Additionally, the fabric is treated to make it self cleaning. A curved waist band and gusseted crotch are added for freedom of movement.

After the jump, view more images of the trouser from photographer Emiliano Granado after the jump.

Courier Fashion by Ruud Baan

Selectism - Courier Fashion by Ruud Baan

Yatzer highlights the photographic work of Ruud Baan which jumps onto the fixed gear train with a Rotterdamn based shoot. I am not really sure if we agree with his reason but the photos look fine. “Dutch photographer Ruud Baan thought that courier companies should pay more attention to their employees and dress them in the most fashionable way. After all, image counts. So he wandered around the streets of Rotterdam in order to find the best locations for shooting the ideal courier boy, with the help of studio Raar that constructed some unique hand made bicycles…”

selectism - Outlier Nailhead Cap

The guys at Outlier continue their steady run of caps produced by New York milliner Victor Osborn. Constructed of a favorite worsted wool, the namesake nailhead, the cap has a subtle pinprick pattern producing good depth of character. The liner is designed to wick sweat away – key for those long fall Sunday rides.

Available in black, navy, and a light blue gray.

selectism - Fast Boy Cycles

I spied an example of Harlem-based Fast Boy Cycles in the window of Soho’s Patagonia store yesterday afternoon. They work under a basic premise – building custom frames to your likeness. Also available are custom racks, fenders and bars. While the website doesn’t provide a ton of information aside from who to contact for an order, it does have a number of pretty bikes.

Check some more out after the jump.
