My youthful obsession with typography remains today. No player outside of Emigre was more important to me than House Industries. I still hold a stockroom full of their type catalogs, posters, and especially their monograph book (out of print – we can only pray it returns). The published of said book, Gestalten delivers this video interview with House founder, Ken Barber. Get some insight now!

Levi’s have just released this little video giving a short overview of the 501. Talking to the designer Alex, who doesn’t look uncomfortable in any way, they show off what makes the 501 iconic and do a little fit description with their updated 501. It’s, errmm, interesting, that’s all we’ll say.

Denim Design Lab Hand-Finish Tool Kit

We first looked at the Denim Design Lab toolkit back when this very site was still in beta. Today, it looks as though the kit still remains an important addition to a denim shop to give a pair of jeans a unique look. Tenue de Nimes looks to have landed one in-house. Visit them for some serious individualized work-overs.

More looks after the click.

PROJECT 10 | 4 Stroke Jeans

Project 10 4 Stroke Jeans-01

4 Stroke, based in New York City, makes contemporary denim on the back of 120 years of manufacturing experience. Tobias Levine is the creative director. He likes motorcycles, tattoos, and leaving Las Vegas.

Where are you from?

New York City.

How did you start?

I started when I joined Aalfs Manufacturing in 2007. I started in sales, a year and half ago I designed the men’s collection for 4 Stroke. We had a cool meeting with Cone Denim Mills and have just gone to town from there.

What are the key features of your brand?

Custom woven selvedge denim. Ability to turn goods in a short time. 120 years of denim knowledge goes into all the sewing, pattern cutting and trims. We own and operate our own warehouse, which helps so much with shipping large and small orders. We have three fits, everything is real consistent across the board and everything stems from the same block.

What’s it like being part of PROJECT 10?

This is one of the proudest moments for our brand. It is a great showcase and we are honored. Retailers have been really impressed with the positioning and that is terrific too. We are just exited to be here.

Finally, what is your favorite thing about Vegas?

Leaving.

4 Stroke

In the heat of summer, heavy denim doesn’t really function. However, 4 stroke offers a pair of 12 oz selvedge canvas fabric pants, made with proprietary Cone Mills White Oak canvas, to satisfy 5-pocket desires in the warmer months.

The White natural canvas “Bones” version, in vanguard slim fit canvas selvedge with exclusive back patch branded leather 4 stroke bars , is exclusive to Bergdorf Goodman in NYC. The Navy “Blue Blood” canvas selvedge, in warsaw tailored straight fit, was done exclusively for Neiman Marcus. both are Cone white oak cotton products for 4 stroke.

View the “Blue Blood” and details of both pants after the jump.

Selvedge Denim NATO Style Watch Strap

Selvedge Denim NATO Style Watch Strap

Highsnob points us at these NATO straps made from selevdge denim, available on Style Forum. Not sure if this is the first NATO watch strap to be made from the highly coveted class of denim, nor should it be your last NATO strap (for those still working through their variants). Maybe overkill if you’re rocking selvedge ends on other garments. You have been warned.

Update: It’s actually nylon made to look like Denim. The warnings should still be heeded.
