Selectism - Lineus Athletic Company

Mr. Yu at Cool Hunting pointed me at a Selectism friend Athletic Company from Marfa, Texas. The Lineus Athletic Company has been produces handmade leather sporting goods for a while. In fact Mr. Lineus  has no problem stress testing his goods inside a Texas penitentiary. “For the first medicine bag he made, he explains, ‘I gave it to the Oregon State Penitentiary in 1987 because they have a famous boxing program and I wanted to find out if it would last. I recently visited to check up on it and it looks great. If you want to find out if something will last forever, that’s a good test.’” Rugged and simply beautiful sport bags.

1963 Corvette Stingray ZO6

selectism - 1963 Corvette Stingray ZO6

I’ve been on a bit of a classic American car binge this week. Corvettes are among my favorites, especially those from the mid-1960s.

In any event, the purpose of this post is not to jabber on about the Corvette, but to point towards Cincinnati Art Museum’s display of a 1963 Corvette Stingray Z06. The museum has been exhibiting single cars – as part of a commitment to showcasing art and design across disciplines – for some time. Among the classic and concept cars none thus far have been American in design or build. The designation then given to the 1963 Corvette Stingray Z06 is pretty exciting. The only other ‘Vette I’ve seen in a museum collection not dedicated to the automotive industry is buried away in the Smithsonian’s secret storage location. The car is on view in Cincinnati until the end of the month.

Selectism - Rat Pack Wheels Come Up for Auction

Luxist points us at a great auto auction happening in Carmel, Cali this month. “On August 14 during London-based auction house Bonhams‘ annual Collectors’ Automobilia and Motorcars sale at the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club in Carmel, CA , classic cars owned by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra will be among those going on the block. Martin’s ride is a 1962 Ghia L6.4 coupe (above), one of only 25 made by now sadly forgotten Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia…”

Selectism - Motor Yacht A by Philippe Starck

When Russians spend, they spend. “Philippe Starck designed Motor Yacht A with Martin Francis for Russian billionaire  Andrey Melnichenko. Built by Blohm+ Voss,  Motor Yacht A is 119 meters long and weighs approximately 5500 tonnes. Reminiscent of a submarine warship the mega yacht’s name is a tribute to Andrey Melnichenko and his wife Serbian fashion model Aleksandra Nikolic. (designboom)

Selectism - James Perse Surf and Paddle Boards

It feels like sports day at Selectism. When you’re like James Perse and have what many consider to the best the best quality basics line out there, you do your best to try something new. The ping-pong table was cool enough but the Perse surf and paddle boards seem even more friendly, but you’ll need an invite to order yours. “James Perse Surfboards are classically designed and hand shaped by one of Southern California’s most reputable shapers from the 60’s. Limited production and hand-crafted personal touch make for a performance board offering versatility and accuracy.” Hit them up if you are interested in these “designer toys.”

For the last five years, Thomas Meyerhoffer has been tinkering with a new design for surfboards. The hourglass shape melds the stability of a longboard with the quickness of a shortboard. This makes the ride a little easier on the novice or recreational surfer.

Outside of surfing, Meyerhoffer has developed product for Apple, Porsche, and Sony Ericsson. (via DB).

Acquire raises awareness on the Hermes Pendulette Clipper Travel Clock. We’re pretty sure Nick, our writer down in Philly, will bring some good critical analysis later on in the comments below, but for now, we hope someone will kindly gift us this coming Holiday season with such a travel clock. ”The Hermes Pendulette Clipper Travel Clock will not only serve you well on your journeys but it has a bit of an heirloom quality that will age beautifully as its passed down from generation to generation.”

The Goodwood Festival of Speed enters its 12th year this weekend. Hosted at a Goodwood House in Sussex, the festival celebrates the raw power and dynamism of the automobile. Each year a sculpture is erected at the site and Audi is the 2009 commissioning agent. Gerry Judah is responsible for the design and implementation. Technically ambitious, it is quite the spectacle. I’ll say it again. “Italians do it better.” Check this BBQ grill from the people at Alessi. Italian made, the grill comes in a variety of configurations including my favorite, the hibachi for those days you want to eat around a grill and not just cook on it. (acquire)
