Tomorrowland Spring/Summer 2012 Looks

08 February 2012, 12.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

tomorrowland ss12 01 Tomorrowland Spring/Summer 2012 Looks

Japanese store Tomorrowland put together a lookbook full of spot on summer layering, the kind of images that make you hate winter with a vengeance. An interesting mix of silhouettes and proportions. Super wide trousers to make the most of that warm breeze are a particular favourite. If you prefer to keep things slim check out their suiting; traditional fabrics with a modern cut.

The store carries stellar labels such as Gaziano & Girling, Mackintosh, Adam Kimmel, Casely-Hayford and Mismo to name just a few. Even with such an incredible list to work from we still have to acknowledge their lookbook skills. Well done Tomorrowland, we want it all. Now.

John Boultbee Elder Street MK1 Jackets from Brooks England for 2012

john boultbee brooks jackets 2012 06 John Boultbee Elder Street MK1 Jackets from Brooks England for 2012

Cycling fans will want to spend some time exploring this gallery. Brooks England gives us a preview of the 2012 edition to the John Boultbee collection of cycling jackets with the introduction of the Elder Street MK1. It is a beautiful mix of old and new tech.

The casual Elder Street blazer is made from Fox Brothers tweed (a Savile Row textile supplier for some time) which has been specially treated to make the fabric water repellant, but the true story lies in the small details: shaped sleeves cut for cycling, an angle storm welt back pocket, a reflective Boultbee strap on the underside, 6mm topstitching…

The John Boultbee Elder Street is meant to look incredible on and off the bicycle while being built tough to work under any environment you are able to safely cycle or walk in. Timothy Everest designed.

Edun's First Campaign - Photographed by Ryan McGinley

Back in 2005, Bono and his wife, Ali Hewson, founded the EDUN line to bring awareness to trade in Africa and beyond. While no major campaigns have occurred under the Edun name, both Bono and Mrs. Hewson have been featured in Louis Vuitton campaigns with the mention of Edun and the African connections.  It all changes for Edun with their debut campaign photographed by Ryan McGinley. The new Edun advertisement campaign features six photographs each featuring one of six species of butterflies – all indigenous to Africa.

Viberg Boots and Clothing for Autumn/Winter 2012 – Preview

viberg boots clothing fall winter 2012 preview 04 Viberg Boots and Clothing for Autumn/Winter 2012 Preview

I opened up the Macbook Air after a couple of weeks to find a stash of more first looks from the European tradeshows last month. I’ll do my best to pin them up today. It would make me sad to not share.

Viberg Boot fanatics: enjoy these looks from the Viberg collection for Autumn/Winter 2012. Note a few new models as well as a range of outerwear that falls into that heritage/workwear/man range. Well made of course and attire-proper if you appreciate this sort of thing. We love the boots.

Commune de Paris Spring/Summer 2012 – Ominous Handbags and More

07 February 2012, 20.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

cdp 1 Commune de Paris Spring/Summer 2012 Ominous Handbags and More

Today we bring you a larger but still somewhat veiled view of Commune de Paris spring/summer wears, which we previewed late last year. There are some fetching clean looks represented but we’re finding their mission statement this go-around a little overwrought:

“Commune de Paris 1871 claims to embody freedom, insubordination, resistance to the dictum of a fashion which creates uniforms and over-sells fleeting moments. This revolutionary propaganda corrupts our youth and erodes the foundations of the Moral Order … A virtual secret police acts against Commune de Paris … BAC (Brigade Anti-Communarde).”

All the smoke machining, Molotov cocktailing and disguising going on here jives with this line of thinking, but it also sounds like a bunch of meaningless doublespeak. Who knows, maybe their tongues are deeper in cheek that we are realizing or maybe something is getting lost in translation. Semantic quibbles aside, we like the crispness of their button ups, the clean patterns used throughout and the anti-professorial leather shoulder patches on the “Sweater Malakoff.” And while printed tees are not heavy hitters in our wardrobes, the silkscreens presented here have an alluring balance of outsider art simplicity and upscale ambiguity.

Band of Outsiders – Spring/Summer 2012 – Polaroids feat. Ed Ruscha

Band of Outsiders - Spring/Summer 2012 - Polaroids feat. Ed Ruscha

American artist, Ed Ruscha gets the Polaroid treatment from Band of Outsiders to highlight their Spring/Summer 2012 collection. The pop artist follows a fine line of what we’ll call “Polaroid ambassadors” for Band of Outsiders who express the wear of their garments in casual and often normal environments. Sure the open fridge and pit bull in the lot may not resonate with all, but the clothing will.

http://www.vimeo.com/36128995

Hats off to Grain & Gram for this great little video offering a look at the workings of accessories favourites MAKR. Founder Jason Gregory skates, sews and sketches his way through the film and, with the help of his bearded associates, creates those totes, wallets and keyfobs we love so much. All crafted in their Florida studio – unsurprisingly one of those perfect spaces that makes you go ‘ooohhh’ –  this is a behind the scenes look at a small company making big waves. An interview also accompanies the film, we recommend you check it out.

Engineered Garments Madras Spring/Summer 2012 Jacket

07 February 2012, 14.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

nepenthes blazer 03 Engineered Garments Madras Spring/Summer 2012 Jacket

Engineered Garments hand down more spring and summer goods for our enjoyment. The “Andover” is a continuing style season to season; this version is a lightweight cotton and while it is a smarter piece in cut, it is also the kind of jacket you could roll up and crease out without too many worries. A crumple here and there just suggests you live an exciting life and have neither the time nor inclination to iron.

If plaid is a little too Ivy for your liking there’s also an excellent polka dot version which also receives our seal of approval. More at Nepenthes.

Gloverall Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

07 February 2012, 13.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Gloverall aw12 04 Gloverall Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection

We take a look at duffle enthusiats Gloverall’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. You’ll be unsurprised to hear it contains a lot of duffle fastenings and heavy wool. These are their bread and butter which means you won’t get any Thom Browne style surprises. Fashion needs a kick in the rear every now and then but steady-as-she-goes thinking is not something to turn your nose up at.

What they do they do well. Clever collaborations with the likes of bstore and the odd splash of attention grabbing colour in the shape of oranges and limes keeps things fresh while the classics march on. The fact is though the combination of oatmeal wool, wooden toggle and rope pull just works. Always has, probably always will.
