MAN Recap01 MAN Tradeshow Paris Revisited

Do you remember when we interviewed the guys behind brand new tradeshow MAN? If the answer’s no then head back in time to here. Well, its first outings in NYC and Paris were a resounding success so we thought we’d share a few images from the floor to give you an idea of what went down on Rue Froissart in the Marais district. The MAN team offer us an exclusive look at their images from the show.  Well-dressed peeps and some top notch goods from the likes of  Kitsuné Tee, Bleu de Chauffe, Jojo Messenger, Steve Mono, and Fred Perry Laurel Wreath.

LANVIN gets a lil playful with their Spring 2012 campaign flick. They knocked on Pharrell’s door and he introduced the fashion house to 18-year old Maxine Ashley who brings a step of youthful energy to the shoot. “Cookieman,” plays through the track and will be available on Ms. Ashley’s debut album.

Lars Andersson Autumn/Winter 2012 – Black Metal Serfwear

Andersson 1 Lars Andersson Autumn/Winter 2012 Black Metal Serfwear

We’ve noticed professional skateboarder and loveable fashion buttinsky Chad Muska rolling about in silhouettes like these for a while now, so some of the initial shock in Lars Andersson’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection rolls right off. What remains are some truly artisanal pieces of knitwear that have enough mutability and variety to suit multiple tastes. A Swedish designer who focuses on knitting, Andersson works with his team of knitters in Brooklyn, turning fine Japanese and Italian yarns into what could be uniformly described as “black metal serfwear.”

The tank top makes us immediately think of a discotheque in an old smithy and if we went the route of the hooded vest we’d maybe throw a t-shirt underneath, but the crew neck sweater and the hoodie are practical statement makers without an over-sized exclamation point. Big bottom line here: if we ever decide to move off-grid to work on our pagan drum circle band and kill rabbits for dinner, you’ll never see us in anything but the hooded coat pictured above.

Patriots Lose the Superbowl, but we have Gisele Bundchen for Versace Jeans

Patriots Lose the Superbowl, but we have Gisele Bundchen for Versace Jeans

While most of New York is doing their best to push me into mourning last night’s Super Bowl loss(yes, I am a Patriots fan), I can take some comfort is knowing that Tom Brady and all of New England still has Gisele’s shoulder to cry on. I guess we win in the end.

Here are a few looks from Gisele Bundchen’s latest campaign for Versace Jeans. Shot in the Sonoran Desert of Borrego Springs, California by Met Alas and Marcus Piggott, it is easiest way to forget our Super Bowl loss. Thank you, Gisele.

Red Wing Heritage 8118 Boot for SHIPS (Japan)

Red Wing for Ships General Supply Supersole Boot 01 Red Wing Heritage 8118 Boot for SHIPS (Japan)
There’s something a pinch off-putting about this collaboration between venerable Japanese supply house SHIPS and stalwart American bootmaker Red Wing that we can’t quite put our big toe on. That gross visual aside, what we’re seeing and not clicking with here might be the black and beige juxtaposition. Though those colors can easily work together, here they seem primed for pairing with something in an acid-washed denim—ready to go to work in a ’90s boy band, perhaps. Given the Supersole’s pedigree, durability is a given, and the silhouette is definitely à la mode. Maybe the colorway will grow on us, but that is of little consequence if it’s already grown on you.

J. Lindeberg Autumn/Winter 2012 – Looks

J. Lindeberg Autumn/Winter 2012 - Looks

J. Lindeberg is taking some alpine queues and inspiration from the Arctic landscape for their Autumn Winter collection, coming later this year. Head designer, Jessy Heueve, tells us, “I’m inspired by the rough, arctic landscape and by garments that have evolved from a specific need – for utility and function in combination with the latest technical innovations – updating, developing and transforming them for the modern and active man.”

They may be onto something with their focus on the tech fabrics, as they have for some seasons now. The knitted leggings for men are of interest as is the use of Italian Loro Piana waterproof fabrics on their Wilhelm parka – they detail to quality is there. Consider J. Lindeberg today if you have passed over their collections; the Scandinavian brand is doing it right in 2012.

PIOMBO Spring/Summer 2012 – Lookbook

piombo ss2012 menswear 2 PIOMBO Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook

Imagine stepping out of a hot shower and instead of reaching for a terrycloth robe, grabbing a pair of terrycloth shorts, a terrycloth shawl-collar jumper and a nice little terrycloth chapeau. We like this idea even more than we like typing the word terrycloth.

Our new-found dream of a spring terry takeover comes to us from PIOMBO. The company’s first collection released in the wake of founder Massimo Piombo’s departure shows an allegiance to his rough-and-tumble aesthetic with a broad but cohesive array featuring loose denim, some delectably sleazy pajamas, smartly patterned shorts, a bit of homeless layering, a particularly devilish beard and more. Soulland Autumn/Winter 2012 – Runway

06 February 2012, 17.00 | Posted in Fashion | 1 comment »

Soulland aw12 1 Soulland Autumn/Winter 2012 Runway

Soulland gets all regal Russian with the ‘Imperial’ collection for Autumn/Winter 2012. Moscow before the fall of the iron curtain provides inspiration (we’re hoping no one uses the phrase ‘tsar-chic’)  as well as the work of artists Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevic. However this is Soulland after all, so modern, casual and college are thrown in the mix as well as the introduction of new prints including the use of Russian tattoo imagery.

Vim Beget – Cervidae VT Leather Wallet

Vim Beget wallet 01 Vim Beget Cervidae VT Leather Wallet

Vim Beget, a small accessories line out of Seattle WA. presents the  Cervidae VT Wallet. A single piece of 2oz vegetable tan leather is moulded into a five compartment accordion style wallet  for cash, loose change, cards and anything else you wish to store away. The entire line has a dark, more modern feel than most handmade leather goods on offer at the moment, but there is a nod to the past with the fastening;  lift-the-Dot snaps on the front flap were originally used to secure WWII military utility pouches. Find the Cervidae VT here.

Ursus Bape Spring/Summer 2012 Looks

ursus bape ss201201 Ursus Bape Spring/Summer 2012 Looks

Ursus, part of the Bape kingdom, might not be our usual fare but this Spring/Summer 2012 collection deserves a look. A relatively new line, established in its early days by Tetsu Nishiyama of WTAPS fame, this is a version of ‘casual’ that really appeals. Of course, it’s got that whole Americana thing happening with bits of naval here and rockabilly there, but it’s all executed in a laid-back manner and with enough good, solid staples that it works perfectly.
