March is creeping to an end, but those of you that like to spread out St. Patrick’s day will want to check out Boulevard Brewing’s Irish Ale. The Kansas City based brewery says of their Winter seasonal, “Irish Ale, Boulevard’s spring seasonal beer, is our Midwestern tribute to the legendary red ales of old Ireland. Our recipe combines six kinds of pale and roasted barley malts to provide a rich, toasty flavor and tawny reddish hue.”

ABV of 5.8%.

Sierra Nevada is taking bold steps.

This spring marks the first use by an American brewing company of fresh hops from the Southern Hemisphere.  Southern Hemisphere Harvest from Sierra Nevada “will debut in late April and will feature fresh Pacific Hallertau, New Zealand Motueka and New Zealand Southern Cross hops, all from New Zealand.” The hops are the freshest possible, flown to California within a week of picking.

The result is a beer with pale and caramel malts and an alcohol content of 6.7%.

Here’s a beer post inspired by a quick weekend trip to Memphis.

Ghost River Brewing, spurred by Memphis’ steady supply of “excellent drinking water,” releases their Oatmeal Stout every March. The beer features “traditional coffee flavors of roasted barley with a sweet malty character” and weighs in with an I.B.U. of 33.

It’s March and that means this years batch of Dogfish Head Aprihop is on shelves. “Aprihop is our fruit beer for hopheads! It is an American IPA brewed with Pilsner and Cystal malts massively hopped in in the continuous fashion. The flavor is complimented by the addition of Apricots.”

For 2011, the brewery has worked with Dave Plunkert on a limited edition print celebrating the awesomeness of each seasonal brew. Aprihop marks the first release. The print, and bottle, are both picture above.
