Cast Iron Trye Stool by Paul Isabella

trye stool 02 Cast Iron Trye Stool by Paul Isabella

“Entirely made of only four parts, this stool is industrialized minimalism at its best. A cast iron base and solid wood top give a nod to genuine and honest materials, giving this piece its simplistic charm.” This is the Tryre stool from Paul Isabella a Minneapolis based designer inspired by the likes of Jens Risom and Finn Juhl. This quietly impressive design does a lot with relatively little, the kind of object that we’d happily invite indoors. Via Design Milk.

Pitti – Versus Tokyo – Facetasm Furniture

Pitti - Versus Tokyo - Facetasm Furniture

In our view, Hiromichi Ochiai’s Facetasm “collection” was one of two clear standouts in the “Versus Tokyo” exhibition at this season’s Pitti Uomo show in Florence. Working around the “Humor in Pop” theme, Ochiai’s work delivered a unique take on inkjet printed fabrics. We highlight their work on furniture including this couch ottoman set with fabrics sourced from the folks at Unused as well as a strong lover seat couch with its “swamp” motif. Killer looks that deserve to be in my living room. Up next is a look at their “Last Supper” sweaters… prepare.

denham case 01 Method Design Journeyman Trunk for Denham

Scotland’s Method Design “As solid and surprising as a Glasgow Kiss”, create luxury handmade furniture from their Glencoe workshop. Marissa, an architect and Callum,  a second generation cabinetmaker aim to create innovative pieces with a nod to traditional design and methods. With the dedicated denim head in mind they created this intricate Ash framed structure for Denham.

A one off for the 100% Design Exhibition, entitled “a Steamer Trunk for a Jeanmaker”. With those traditional travelling trunks in mind from the days when travel was a bit more glamorous than a printed e-ticket, this is a quality piece of craftsmanship with more drawers, shelves, engineered fixings and interconnected joints then you can shake a stick at.

Studio Love “Separation Shelf”

split shelf 04 Studio Love Separation Shelf

Christmas. A time for caring and sharing. It’s also the perfect opportunity to start an argument and split up with your loved one. With the high rate of break ups around the festive season, Studio Love’s decidedly unromantic shelf system might be a great way to say ‘I think it’s time to go our separate ways’. 2.5 meters of lump timber marked with grooves, the shelf fixes to the wall as one piece. When all is well, you’ll both stack your assorted collectibles on each side as if nothing is awry.

Then, in the event of a break up the shelf supports can be used to split the shelf 50/50 or in unequal parts if one of you is feeling particularly churlish. Enough to make your heart melt right? Find it as Studio Love.

wedgwood desk 01 Wedgwood Angled Leg Desk

We’ve talked staplers, pencils and fancy notebooks in past posts. Well you’re going to need somewhere to store these things, no point buying luxury stationary and throwing it the back of a cupboard. This handsome desk over at Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. is made in the USA; Portland Oregon to be exact. It takes its design cue from mid-century, danish design – all neat lines and uncomplicated form. A solid maple top is set off by those sharp walnut legs. At the front, a white drawer as well as extra storage, at the back an extra shelf to display all you high quality stamping, clipping and writing instruments.

Fin Lounge Chair by Naoya Misawa

Selectism - misawa-naoya-fin-chair-01

Spoon & Tamago let us know about the latest creation from Naoya Misawa. The Fin Lounge Chair received 2nd place in the Erik Jorgensen Design Awards this year and most importantly, looks really cool. We’re not sure how comfortable it is to sit in, but it’ll be worth it when as long as you get photographed by some cool and slightly voyeuristic interiors blog.

Take a leap, see more.
