Selectism - gingerland-guest-blog-01

It’s been a guest blogger heavy week for us and we’re gonna end it with a blog we’ve admired for quite a while, Gingerland. It’s not specifically menswear linked, but we check Sam Alden’s blog consistently for great images and general inspiration. So, with that in mind, we asked him to recreate three shots from some of our most recent features and here’s the results. We’re sure you’ll enjoy looking at them as much as week have.

The other two pictures are after the leap. You can click on each picture to enlarge it.

Guest Blogger | All Plaidout and Joe Gannon on Cause and Effect Belts and Accessories

Joe Gannon and Max Wastler recently visited East Tennessee’s Smokey Montains. Their purpose was simple, to check out the rural studio of craftsmen Billy Moore and investigated his process. Moore, the man behind Cause and Effect Belts & Accessories, has been described as an unorthodox genius. He’s said to spend days beating leather hides with stones… and evenings rebel rousing. The belts have been described as “old fashioned,” and while neither the aesthetic nor the approach screams ‘turn back the clock’ it still manages to work.

But, enough of our thoughts. Let’s turn to our guest bloggers. Above, you’ll find Mr. Gannon hard at work polishing a belt buckle. After the jump, some words by Mr. Wastler (on a night with Mr. Moore) is complemented by some fine photography.

Selectism - One Trip Pass + Ace Hotel | A Coastal Caravan

Our friend, Jou-Yie Chou, from the ACE Hotel checks in with this dispatch from the “Coastal Caravan.”

Ace Hotel decided to join Jay Carroll and the third installation of One Trip Pass for a journey down the west coast from Portland Oregon and the hotel there, to LA and out to Palm Springs. Day one we picked up the Airstream and Silverado (on loan from both companies, respectively) and set out on the road for a two weeks of hoarding a mix of art, craft, vintage and experience. Stayed at Fort Stevens State Park last night outside of the Goonies town, Astoria, OR and are now headed south. Once we get down to LA next week come check out our mobile shop. More on that later  - in the meantime check back here for notes from the road. (images: Nate Bressler)

A few more images from “A Coastal Caravan” after the click.

Selectism - john-woo-seven-days-01

Ok, so we broke our own rules. Technically John Woo (not the director) isn’t a blogger, but his Star Wars pics appeared on so many blogs we thought he was suitable. Our oh-so-technical rules aside, we asked John to give a star wars character a ‘fit from our most recent seven days feature. He fitted up C3P0 in the this outfit, so if you’ve ever wanted to see what 3PO would look like in Soulland, Perks & Mini, Norse Projects and Springcourts, now’s your chance.

Take a leap to see the full length shot.

Selectism - on-beyond-dana-lee-duffle-01

There’s been a few bumps along the way, but here’s the second installment of our guest blogger series. Picking guest bloggers isn’t easy, but choosing On And Beyond was as big a no-brainer as no-brainers get. Of course when we first chose him, he was still relatively under the radar; since then he’s been shouted out by GQ and started working with Nike. We’re just glad he replied to our emails.

Given On and Beyond’s photography, we thought it made sense to get him to showcase a stand out piece from one of our favourite designers, Dana Lee. We picked the shearling lined leather duffle coat from her autumn/winter 2010 collection, because it deserved a closer look. The rest is up to Vincent.

Take a leap to see the rest of the shoot.

Selectism - wear-tear-04

We took a week off, but here’s the next feature in our guest blogger series. There’s no shortage of classic menswear based blogs out there right now, but for our money Start With Typewriters is one of the best. SWT’s approach is decidedly light-hearted, going against the po-faced grain that’s gaining popularity.

Another reason we like Start With Typewriters is their ‘wear and tear’ series, where they take a look at what happens when you’ve used a product for a year or so. So, with that in mind, we felt it only right to ask them to do a special wear and tear for us. Read their review of the Quoddy boat shoes after the leap.

Selectism - blue-hour-store-tour-01

There’s been an explosion of beautiful blogs since we launched and we felt that it’s time we open up our borders and work with some of our favourite ones – which is why we created this new guest blogger feature. Every Wednesday for this month will showcase one of our favourite blogs doing what they do best. They’ll be some you know and some you don’t, but each one is a personal favourite of ours.

First up is The Blue Hour. Created by Brian Ferry, The Blue Hour showcases beautiful photography of whatever takes his fancy. We especially like Ferry’s ability to – and forgive the flowery prose – make the mundane beautiful.  To showcase his talents, we asked Brian to take a tour of some of our favourite stores in London.

The first half includes stops at Shop at Bluebird, B Store and Albam, which you can see after the leap.
