This is my first foray into the H&M Home collection 2011 looks to fall under the “Industrial Modern” veil. Choose from signage to lace your bed with or the kitchen motifs which fall more classically in line with what grandma would pass onto you. So in the case that your family’s collection of linens never made it to you, hit up H&M and refuel on them today. (c)

promenade 01 selectism Promenade Tumbler

If you like drinking, music and “the past,” these hand-painted glasses are for you.

The illustrations that are hand-painted on these glasses are copies of figures depicted in the “Wiener Veduten”, a collection of prints published around 1800 illustrating Viennese society. The prints became immensely popular; contemporary copies and a few rare originals can still be seen in Viennese homes and businesses today. The prints were published by Artaria, a music publishing company that was known for publishing over 300 of Haydn’s works, most of Mozart’s works, and works by Beethoven, Gluck, Boccherini and Clementi.

Made in Austria at Lobmeyr. Available from Moss.

Invoking the warm embers of a glowing camp fire, the “KML” candle by Baxter of California for Unionmade is a bold blend of Cedar and Sandlewood moderated with Guiacwood Oil. A true collaborative effort, the “KML”candle was conceived in tandem by J.P. Mastey, President BAXTER OF CALIFORNIA and Todd Barket founder of UNIONMADE. Housed in a sophisticated round craft paper box, the candle is in battle ship grey wax.

The Times Of New York Candle

nyt candle 01 selectism The Times Of New York Candle

Tobias Wong, may he rest in peace, is responsible for the conception of “The Times of New York Candle.” Produced by Bondtoo – the idea was realized by creative director Josée Lepage – in an edition of 1000, the candle pays homage to the Grey Lady and hints at the scent omitted by old newsprint. Ace Hotel’s Project No. 8 stocks them. Or, get one direct from Bondtoo. (via Refinery).

Soft Rocker by Established & Sons

selectism - Soft Rocker by Established & Sons

Fresh seating for 2011 from Established & Sons. “A crossbreed of an armchair and a rocking chair, Soft Rocker is entirely upholstered, right to the end of its rockers. It provides the soothing motion of a rocking chair, with the comfort of an armchair. Except for the expressive curve of the actual rocker, the design is intentionally boxy to give the impression that the shape is halfway between reality and an isometric drawing. However, its static form is deceptive for once sat in, it gives way to soft, comfortable movement. The back, seat and arms are aligned to best support a mental state of ‘relaxed alertness’ the perfect pose for reading the paper, a prolonged gaze out of the window or a good conversation.”

We’ve covered these before – the world’s first designer low energy light bulb. Designed by Hulger and Samuel Wilkinson, the Plumen light bulbs are both ecological and pretty damn sexy. The Design Museum has them available now.

Vibram Coasters

In the “why not” category comes these drink (?) coasters from Vibram. Most likely made from factory waste/excess materials, these coasters add superb grip to your tabletop. Hell, we’d like to try them on the car dash. Sticky for the better. Not sure if they’re Japan only, but the nerds will love these. Zozo has them. #need

selectism - Arrows by Fredericks and Mae

Every urban woodsman needs some arrows. The look is no longer complete with just a beard, Filson coat, and some Redwings. Weapons are needed. (Just Kidding).

While weapons certainly aren’t needed, Fredericks and Mae’s decorative arrows – made with wood, feathers, thread, gold, and silver – are uniquely crafted and have great individual flare. We’ll go as far as saying their more visually exciting than a random axe, and a real at home conversation starter.
