declaration-of-independence-dunlap Rare Copy Of The Declaration Of Independence Found

The AP reports in with word that a rare, unknown copy of the Declaration of Independence has been discovered in the United Kingdom.

British researchers have announced the discovery of a rare original copy of America’s Declaration of Independence — just in time for the Fourth of July.

Katrina McClintock, a spokeswoman at the National Archives, said Thursday that a researcher accidentally discovered the “Dunlap print,” named after a printer, several months ago. The find was announced only after it could be properly catalogued.

Edward Hampshire, the National Archives’ specialist in colonial materials, said the find was “incredibly exciting.”

“It is likely that only around 200 of these were ever printed, so uncovering a new one nearly 250 years later is extremely rare, especially one in such good condition,” he said.

Happy 4th of July to all celebrating…

We’re getting there people. You know, that point where just about everything from a simple bandage can be converted into a work of luxury… in someone’s eyes. Amrom Experimental has issues some “Donor Skin” bandages of the “band-aid” variety, and I happen to like them. I doubt I would prefer them over the one use Band-Aid variant I would pick up at my local apothecary, but they’re interesting enough to get some reaction out of the crew. They’re 18$US. Short money for good look. (r29)

Another look at the Amron Exptl. Leather Bandages after the jump.

Root

root-front Root

A uniquely American spirit, Root has a history dating back to the 1700s. “Root Tea” was an herbal remedy passed to English settlers by the Native Americans. During the temperance movement the alcohol was removed from “Root Tea,” and Root Beer was born. Until this year, the original formula has been dormant, only now resurrected by Art in the Age (and the folks behind Sailor Jerry Rum and Hendricks Gin). They’ve recreated “Root Tea,” as a certified organic 80 proof liquor. Enjoy alone or as a mixed drink.

While the adults in the house enjoy a bit of sparkling this Summer on the terrace, be sure the young ones are not left out. We recommend any variety of sparkling apple juice which should be readily available from most grocery stores. But if you want them to feel a bit more luxurious, find something special like Bom Pommillon and order it from Colette so you can tell them it came special for them from Paris.

Ah yes. Memorial Day weekend in the USA! That means food. And beer. Lots of it. Rogues Gallery properly prepares us for the coming long weekend with the announcement of their Squall IPA. “Developed hand in hand with Sam Calagione and the master brewers at Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Delaware. The collaboration brings together the hard-worn New England port town perspective of Rogues Gallery and the artisinal brew-mastery of Dogfish Head.” In some regard, I would have assumed they would have brewed locally but 750ml champagne bottles are good from all ends, including Delaware. Here’s hoping there’s a bottle coming my way this June.

Look for a small run of Squall IPA shirts at their online store.

Photographer Atisha Paulson comes through with a great photo essay covering the sights and sounds of this year’s Coachella Music Festival for Contributing Editor. It’s filled with images of scenesters and hip kids alike and offer a glimpse into a moment. I should bring my camera to Rock Werchter.

MiniBar AMS - Self Serve Liquor Bar

minibar-amsterdam MiniBar AMS - Self Serve Liquor Bar

Here’s an interesting take on the bar scene - MiniBar, a new establishment in Amsterdam, looks to take the wait out of bar socializing with a self serve deal. Whether there is a control to check on intoxication of the patrons is another issue, but damn, this is Amsterdam. How does it work you ask? “Customers leave a passport or driver’s license with a staff member and are given an ice bucket and a key to their bar. The numbered mini fridges fill an entire wall, and vary in size and content—guests can choose from beer bars, champagne bars and mixed bars. Like anold-fashioned food automat, the mini bars are stocked from the back, making for easy restocking and out-of-sight logistics.” (springwise)
