Hong Kong based readers will be pleased to know that Canon called upon Japanese fashion designer, Mihara Yasuhiro to design this map bag style camera case for their Canon G10 camera. Truth be told, it looks to fit just about any G Series camera including the G10’s famous older brother, the G9. Finding a proper bag for the G series has been a pain for a while now. We think this leather one does it well.  Available now through the Canon Image2 Showroom or online(via kix-files)

Wallpaper* Magazine’s “Next generation: Creative Directors” highlights the new wave of CRs forging the road in fashion. “A wind of change has blown through many fashion houses lately, bringing with it a new crop of creative directors. It may be just a coincidence of timing but the sudden rush of fresh talent, busy injecting life into old labels, creating brand new lines or shining light on forgotten histories, is a welcome infusion of energy and invention.” Wallpaper* pulls Q&A’s with Kim Jones, Bruno Pieters, Stuart Vevers, and Pierre-Henri Mattout for the piece. A great read.

giles deacon interview StyleMag | Interview with Giles Deacon

British born designer, Giles Deacon, goes on the record with Germany’s Style Mag to discuss everything from his collaboration with New Look und Fay, new rave, and his schooling at Central Saint Martins College of Art where the man had some select classmates of his own.

“I was in the same class with Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen and Luella Bartley, but also with Katie Grand [Deacon’s former girlfriend, founder of Dazed & Confused and Pop Magazine]. Two years behind me was Stella McCartney. Somehow, almost everyone attended Saint Martins. There was a main program, but the school also hosted various guest professors for shorter projects. We could fortunately study with people like John Galliano, Georgina Godley and Calvin Klein.”

England’s finest (and maybe the world) leather saddle company offer some excellent gifts for the cyclists in your life. Our favorite being the Brooks Tool Roll Bag with its assortment of levers, spanners, allen wrenches (metric), screwdrivers, and more. Housed beautifully in either brown, honey, or black, the leather tool bag has not changed much since it first hit the market in 1914. Find it at all finer bicycle shops or Oi Polloi.

The Fresno Bee has a great video up showcasing the art of shoe repair. The focus is on Pete’s Shoe Repair, outside of Fresno in Dinuba. The video is a telling one offering the view of a trade which one man continues to peruse.  Pete himself mentions that in Dinuba alone there used to be five repair shops. Today, he is the last remaining shop in town. A great look into the workmanship of shoe repair.

Selectism favorite, MUJI, has just announced the results of their MUJI AWARD 03 for 2008 revolving around the theme of “Found MUJI.” More than 1900 applications from 35 countries were submitted. This year’s gold prize winner came from Yuki lida of Japan with “Straw Straw.” The straw is made from wheat and was once represented on ancient wall art. “Wall art depicting people using straws of wheat to drink from have been discovered from ancient Mesopotamian ruins. Straws of wheat are forms created by nature; they are materials that return to the soil. There’s no waste in either the shape itself, or in its actual existence.”
