Feit – Hand Sewn Low Shoe – Naturale

06 March 2012, 16.00 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes | 1 comment »

Feit-Toscano-04

Australian brand Feit make some exceptional hand-sewn footwear, taking an old method and making something pleasingly  modern. Founded in 2005, they offer a selection each month which, of course, are available on a small, limited run. This Toscano Low in Natural is a fine example of what the handmade method brings to a shoe. They seem like you’re run of the mill plain leather court sneaker but up close the raw stitching, the cut of the leather, the ridge running along the heel, the cork footbed…it all comes together to make something rather special.

Available in black and chocolate brown (all Goodyear constructed), this Naurale shade is a winner, even if it does have a touch of the Buffalo Bills about it. Feit also offer more sports and outdoors influenced styles, take a look over here for more.

Ovadia & Sons – Hiking Boot

06 March 2012, 01.00 | Posted in Shoes | 1 comment »

ovadia and sons hiking boot 1 Ovadia & Sons Hiking Boot
You might not know this about us—because why the hell would you—but among our numbers we have a deep familial connection to the Cascade mountain range in the Pacific Northwest. These alpine boots, while initially reminding us of the Swiss Alps, have louder resonance in relation to tramping up the side of one of North America’s steep and beautiful counterparts. As we’ve mentioned in the past, Ovadia & Sons are also all about family tradition, being a New York-based, family run outfit with 25 years of history over their shoulder.

Their new hiking boot features a hand-stitched Vibram Commando sole and comes in two colorways: brown leather with red flannel ankle padding, and chocolate suede with blue. They are made in Italy and, it would seem, made to make memories on the side of a pretty mountain. Available for pre-order later this month when Ovadia & Sons relaunches their website.

Alden for Leffot – Gatsby Longwing Blucher

02 March 2012, 17.00 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

Alden-Leffot-LWB-02

Leffot have been eyeing up an Alden two-tone shoe for a while. Now it’s finally arrived in all its dandy glory. Of course, these automatically take you back to the early twentieth century – that pure white panel might be a little too gleaming for most folk, especially in contrast to the tan. However these incredible shoes should not be ignored as just a costume piece for revivalists at the Governors Island Jazz -Age Lawn Party. Wear them right and they can be pulled off the shiny new modern world.

Leffot comment “Spectator shoes date from the nineteenth century but reached the height of popularity during the 1920s and 1930s. Inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald our Gatsby is crisp and clean in burnished tan and white calfskin.” More here.

‘Shoes Like Pottery’ – Kiln Baked Canvas Sneakers

02 March 2012, 16.00 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes | 2 comments »

Shoes-Like-Pottery-02

Yeah, a bit novelty heavy. We would’ve passed ‘Shoes like Pottery‘ if they didn’t look so canvas-ey good. There’s not a great deal to these. The rubber soles are baked on in a kiln, they’re handmade in Kurume, Japan and stockist South Willard point out that the production process on the sole makes for a more flexible and durable shoe. The look is a raw, stripped back pair of Converse with a slightly more interesting texture to the fabric. Black, indigo and white – we’d be happy with whichever. Thanks to Ready for the House for the heads up.

cole haan lunargrand leather wingtips 1 Cole Haan LunarGrand Wingtips Now in Leather for Men and Women

We sung praises for the original delivery of Cole Haan Lunargrand shoes during New York Fashion Week. The wingtip uppers set against the Nike Lunar soles make them some of the more comfortable wardrobe-proper shoes on the market right now. Today, Cole Haan released a fresh batch of colorways with their leather Lunargrand versions. Pick and choose your favorites. They run $278 and are sold exclusively through the Cole Haan SoHo store at 128 Prince Street, NYC. Some of these are sex specific but truthfully, they all look good.

Yuketen – Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

01 March 2012, 12.00 | Posted in Fashion, Shoes | No comments »

Yuketen-SS2012-Lookbook-09

What Yuketen don’t know about hand-finished leather shoes isn’t worth knowing. If ever a footwear company could be classed a safe bet it’s Yuki Matsuda and Co. What is so refreshing about the brand is its willingness to take risks. They could churn out tough moccasins and chunky soled boat shoes season after season whilst comfortably retaining their stellar reputation. However they opt to take a few risks each outing alongside those returning classics. Risky colourways, off-beat shapes, snakeskin and some controversial use of brogueing here and there. Fair play.

Check out Spring/Summer 2012 to see what has popped up this time.

Eastland Made in Maine Belfast USA Boot

29 February 2012, 19.00 | Posted in Shoes | No comments »

Eastland-Made-in- Maine-Belfast-USA-01
Eastland Made in Maine Belfast USA is a clunker of a name for a boot, but then again, these are some big, rugged dogs. Coming Autumn 2012, this trail-eating six-eye is handsewn in the moccasin fashion by some skilled folks in Maine using Horween leathers, tanned here in the U.S. and given hand-rubbed finishes.

The kiltie is, of course, the focal point of the boot, though we are a little relieved to know that it’s removable. It’s a handsome touch, but there might be days when you are just not in the mood for a damn kiltie. Nice work, Eastland.
