http://www.vimeo.com/38427221

Wanna know more about Lo-Heads? Don’t know what Lo-heads actually are? Look no further.

“Put This On, a web series about dressing like a grownup, visits New York City, a place where style is defined and redefined through interpretation and reinterpretation. Meet the ‘Lo Heads. With roots in 1980s street gangs, these Polo Ralph Lauren enthusiasts have made “aspirational apparel” a lifestyle. They once had to boost their Polo from stores and fight to keep it on the streets.”

Jack Spade for Theaster Gates – Armory Bag

jack spade theaster gates bag 01 Jack Spade for Theaster Gates Armory Bag
Here’s another limited edition offering for the day, this time from Jack Spade, who teamed up with artist and “cultural planner” Theaster Gates for a limited edition canvas bag dipped in black latex that celebrates the 2012 Armory Show. Proceeds from the sale of the tote go toward Gate’s Rebuild Foundation which turns old buildings nationwide into community art spaces.

We dig the charity and the color and material contrast on the bag, but do wish it didn’t look so much like something we got for donating to a charity (read: too much labeling). See how much better it is left alone? Though, to be fair, Gate’s acronym A.N.N.A.P. (Association of Named Negro American Potters) is pretty legit. A good idea and an even better cause. Pick one up here for $250 (probably a write-off).

Orlebar Brown shares this behind-the-scenes video from their Summer 2012 campaign. Fans of swimwear and swim trunks will enjoy these preview of what is coming later in the year. Shot on the beautiful beaches of Ibiza.

“Building on the OB Classics, our collection for Spring/ Summer 2012 completes the essentials for smart holiday travel: sharply tailored sweats, pique or toweling polos, our first chino as well as new riviera shirts and shorts. For SS12, we reference both the spirit of Slim Aarons 1960’s photography of the Riviera and Palm Springs as well as the inside/outside mood of Pierre Koenig’s Californian architecture.”

Prada – Shibuya Sneaker – Walking in Tokyo

Prada - Shibuya Sneaker - Walking in Tokyo

As a follow-up to Prada’s “Walking in Milano” hand-sewn shoe collection, they bring us their Eastern counterpart in the form of the Shibuya sneaker from the forthcoming “Walking in Tokyo” set. The Prada Shibuya sneaker is the “alter-ego” of Milano’s Bastioni shoe. Set in an all-white upper on a duo-color sole, the Shibuya uses a velcro monk-style strap across the upper to stay locked down.

A head-to-head look at the Shibuya vs. Bastioni on the next page.

scott-exhibition-09

London’s Natural History Museum hosts ‘Scott’s Last Expedition’, an exhibition exploring the final mission to the Antarctica and the incredible stories around his life and death. Featuring “rare artifacts used by Scott’s team and scientific specimens, appearing together for the first time, alongside a life-sized representation of Scott’s hut that survives in Antarctica” this looks like one not to miss. Falling on the centenary of Scott reaching the South Pole, the exhibition runs until September 2.

Congolese Wrestlers by Colin Delfosse

congo wrestlers 01 Congolese Wrestlers by Colin Delfosse

I’m guessing someone has already referenced Congolese wrestlers in their collection press release. These are some pretty next level fighting outfits. Less ‘fun’ than Mexican costumes and far more sinister than anything Big Daddy ever wore, take these incredible images by Colin Delfosse as weekend garb inspiration.

Flavorwire explain. “There are hundreds of wrestlers in Kinshasa city on the Congo River. In the evening, they lead audiences in motorized parades to the backyards and back streets where their semi-fixed matches begin. Their costumes — from the luchador-esque macho men and mystical spell casters to priests and Spidermen — complement their furious charisma.”

Nike, Undercover Gyakusou Spring 2012 – Campaign

17 February 2012, 23.00 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

nike undercover gyakusou spring2012 10 Nike, Undercover Gyakusou Spring 2012 Campaign

We’ve mentioned our love of the Nike x Undercover Gyakusou collection over on our brother site Highsnob with praise reserved for the very best. A collaborative effort between Nike and Jun Takahashi’s Undercover line, Gyakusou very much embodies the spirit of the Takahashi’s design and his love for the sport of running. What makes the collection strong for us is how little fanfare either party gives to this work; Gyakusou flies under the radar while providing a product that elevates itself into a category all its own for the sport.

The campaign for Gyakusou’s fourth collection takes inspiration from “Yin and Yang.” “Takahashi uses this theme to highlight the difference between the Men’s and Women’s collection and male and female runners also placing them in environments that visually represent the essence of yin and yang.” Directed and photographed by Katsuhide Morimoto, the Spring 2012 Gyakusou collection was shot in Oshima (Black Desert) and Nakatajima (White Desert) in Japan.

The collection is available through very select Nike retailers globally.
