Burberry Black Label Spring/Summer 2012

burberry black label ss2012 1 Burberry Black Label Spring/Summer 2012

The elusive Japan/Asia market-only Burberry Black Label range continues their niche market attack on menswear for Spring/Summer 2012. It’s filled with suiting and some casual wear – all tailored for the market the Black Label collection sits in. Absolutely killer jackets and blazers throughout but the real win goes to gentleman who can properly suit up into this collection. They don’t call it “Black Label” for nothin’.

streets of the world exhibition nyc 20 Streets of the World at Opera Gallery, NYC Preview

“Streets of the World” opens this weekend at the New York City location of Opera Gallery. The installation features 40 of the more prominent street artists from around the globe. The show is meant to highlight the phenomenon of “street artists” transitioning into the contemporary gallery scene. The majority of the pieces on display were created specifically for the ‘Streets of the World’ installation – running May 11th – May 31.

Some of the artists who contributed work are: Rone, Kid Zoom, ROA, Blek le Rat, Herakut, How and Nosm, The London Police, Nick Walker, Saber, Revok, Faile, Bäst, Swoon, Ron English, Trustocorp, Mare 139, Jose Parla, Eric Haze, Logan Hicks, Aiko and Banksy.

A handful of the exhibiting artists attended the opening soiree earlier this week, including Ron English. Definitely stop through if you find yourself in SoHo between now and May 31st. A broader ranging collection of street-to-gallery art can probably not be found under any other single roof.

Nike Football – Manchester United Home Kit

11 May 2012, 20.30 | Posted in sports | 1 comment »

nike-manchester-united-home-2012|13-01
For their 2012-13 home kit, Nike turned the industrial history of Manchester United’s home city—specifically Manchester’s renowned cotton mills that were responsible for the iconic gingham check pattern featured on the jersey. The label on the inner neck takes it a step further, reading “Forged in Industry, Striving for Glory.”

The new home kit is made from Nike’s ground-breaking recycled polyester, making it Nike’s most environmentally friendly kit ever produced. Each kit (shirt and shorts) is made using up to thirteen recycled plastic water bottles … Since 2010 Nike has used an estimated 1115 million recycled plastic bottles to create its high performance kits.

The technical flurries on this gear go on for days, but we are especially curious about the Nike Dri-FIT technology that “wicks moisture away from athletes to help keep them cool and dry on-pitch.” Like, does that wicking work from the outside too, for sloshed pints? Read more here.

The Tom Sachs SPACE PROGRAM: Mars exhibition opens May 16 – June 17, 2012 at the Armory in New York City, turning 55,000 sq feet into an “immersive space odyssey” that features the artists sculpture of space mission platforms, vehicles, and suiting. In conjunction with the opening of the SPACE PROGRAM: Mars, the artists has entered in a joint venture with Nike launching the Tom Sachs: NIKECraft collection – a sportswear collection utilizing materials never before used in sportswear: automotive airbags, mansails, and space suiting. The details continue the relationship between astronaut and athlete with “Zipper pulls that double as storage containers, paracord that can be fashioned as a tourniquet and embellishments like the periodic table of elements screened on the inside of a jacket.”

Tom Sachs: NIKECraft collection includes The Mars Yard Shoe, the Trench, The Marsfly Jacket, and the Lightweight Tote.

pasta buccatini alla matriciana 1 Recipes | 5 Tasty Pasta Dishes from Food Republic

Who’s got a cooking date night this weekend? Be it for family, friends, or even a casual date that (we hope it goes well), cooking up a nice plate of plate of pasta will not only fill the belly but it will put a smile on all. Rather than narrow it down today to one dish, we asked our friends at Food Republic to recommend us five pasta dishes that span a range of tastes, flavors, and cultural references. Who knew that streetwalkers in ancient Rome are thought to have invented Pasta Puttanesca Recipe?

See all five pasta dishes on the following page.

aoúd Jewelry – Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

aoud jewelry ss2012 1 aoúd Jewelry Spring/Summer 2012 Collection
There is a wealth of manly jewelry in this world, and a lot of it is very striking stuff. But a dude wearing a piece of rather androgynous ware, like the bracelet pictured above, is probably a dude who doesn’t rely much on macho posturing. We like that, and we are enjoying looking through aoúd’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, imagining outfits and locations befitting some of this stuff.

The tassel might get a little sticky, but this would look smart hugging your wrist as you threw back a series of stiff Cuba Libres on a sun-bleached beach, dressed in some sort of linen suit. We are also picturing worn-out sea planes flying low overhead and bouncing down a landing strip next to the bar. Oh, and the sun keeps glinting on that little skull. “aoúd is the link between reality and invisibility,” we are told—in context, that actually almost makes sense.

Helmut Newton: Sex & Landscapes – Los Angeles Gallery Show

helmet newton 1 Helmut Newton: Sex & Landscapes Los Angeles Gallery Show
We are not being pervy when we say that we could stare at naked women all day. Those cheesy lines about the beauty of the female form—like most worn-out clichés—happen to be true, and few photographers took this fact of nature to the heights reached by Helmut Newton

Helmut Newton’s Sex & Landscapes, a series created in collaboration with the late artist’s wife and collaborator, June Netwon, features 20 of his so-called “sex pictures”—glamorous, seductive shots of women in various states of undress and seductive performance—and 20 landscapes.

Show opens on June 1st at the Perry Rubenstein Gallery in Los Angeles.
