Merrell Gatherer Jacket

Selectism - Merrell Gatherer Jacket

Merrell has made the simple the question of "how heavy a jacket should I wear?" just a bit easier. Their latest creation is the Merrell Gatherer Coat, which is made from a thin translucent nylon that exposes the ins of your jacket – which are nonexistent. You see, the Gatherer Coat leave the job of insulating to you. Pack whatever material you want – leaves, newspaper, grass – into the insulation pockets and you can custom warm or cool your body. The best part is that when "uninsulated" this coat is easy to store and is waterproof. (via inhabitant)

Selectism - Acne Jeans Bogus Belt

Acne Jeans Bogus Belts arent the normal leather or nylon variety. Mating rubber with silver buckle finishes, the bogus belts are appealing and fresh and remind me well of my diver’s watch strap. Pick them up at Blackbird for 125$US in burgundy, silver birch, or bungee.

Selectism - Dolce & Gabbanna Spring 2009 Runway Preview

Some looks into the Spring 2009 runway collection from Dolce & Gabbana. As Tim Blanks of men.style puts it "In the end, Gabbana’s doubt was needless. What he and Domenico Dolce managed to serve up was the most sophisticated version yet of the casual/formal hybrid that is the 21st century’s contribution to menswear. And the pajama theme underscored Dolce & Gabbana’s new mantra: comfort."

Stockholm Desk and Cabinet

selectism - stockholm desk and cabinet

Typically one views Target as the big box with style and flair. However, the Stockholm set from Walmart does impress. Light veneer, white and orange accents. The metal feet give it a lift and make it just airy enough. For a taste of mid-century design without the typical cost, the Stockholm series works well. And, to be blunt, it is a bit of a surprise find. Thanks Retro to Go

Selectism - Viktor & Rolf Spring 09 Runway Preview

As usual, men.style provides some great gallery views of the Paris Spring 09 shows. Viktor & Rolf’s runway for spring 09 was a great talking point, As Tim Blanks points out, "V&R’s latest idea was Hawaii in the fifties, a time when they felt people had a natural elegance. That wasn’t precisely the quality that their bamboo-print shirts, tiki-mask motifs, and faux wood-grain jacquards conveyed, but at least there was a degree of accessibility in such kitschery…"

IHT on Spring 09’s “color, graphism, shine”

Selectism - IHT on Spring 09's "color, graphism, shine"

The International Herald Tribune reports in this morning with a review of the Paris mens spring 09 collections commenting on the "volume and graphics" of accessories that looked to serve a purposed of more importance this runway season. "…And, as Paul Smith put it pragmatically backstage before his show, the focus on accessories – scarves, colorful belts and shoes – had a practical purpose as the financial clouds gather. A small purchase can give a fillip to a wardrobe, if strapped-for-cash men pass on a new suit."
