Selectism’s Favorite Winter Boots of 2011

Selectism's Favorite Winter Boots of 2011

As winter starts threatening to rear its ugly head, things are about to change, wardrobe-wise. For the women, their looks are about to be replaced by Duvet-esque outerwear, but guys have plenty of options in autumn/winter styles.

Depending on where you are from, footwear can be one of the most important articles of clothing during the cold months. Yet, most of us wear the same kicks all year round, when a proper pair of boots may be more appropriate. For many guys, they stopped wearing ankle-length boots the minute they start high school, when mom does not have quite as much pull in the clothing sweepstakes. There is, however, usually a point in time after university where one realizes that a pair of Skytops are not proper substitute for a pair of chukka boots.

With that, we thought we’d show you some of Selectism’s favorite boots this season and maybe even share with you what we’re wearing them with.

Summer Rewind | Newport Folk Festival 2011

newport folk festival 2011 looks selectism 08 Summer Rewind | Newport Folk Festival 2011

I’ve done my fair share of festival hopping back in my 20’s and then again in 2008 with a five festival Radiohead run that would bring any normal human to their knees. I vowed to avoid festivals at all costs back then, even considering the abundance of solid line-ups that draw the crowds to pound through mud and traffic-hell for days on end.

But the truth is I would do it all again, just at a different pace. The Newport Folk Festival brought that change…

Newport Folk Festival 2011 Limited Posters

This weekend brings us the annual Newport Folk Festival down in the fort in Newport, RI. The list of guests and performances is a strong one and we’re excited to be attending along with many in our business. The festival itself is sold-out for the weekend so we recommend you all get in early in 2012 with your tickets.

Those on site will of course be able to purchase one of two limited edition screened posters commemorating the event. On the right we preview the official Newport Folk Festival poster, designed by Nate Duval. It will be available in limited quanities beginning Saturday.

On the left, we preview the special benefit only Backstage BBQ poster designed by Chris Capotosto. It is only available to those attending Saturday evening’s benefit BBQ on the fort. Much harder to get a hold of.

Brimfield 2011 Opening Day Oddities

brimfield antiques 2011 may 29 Brimfield 2011 Opening Day Oddities

This writer is less than 1.5 hours from the big ole Brimfield Antiques Show, which went into full swing this past Tuesday. By our own admission, day one may give you access to only half of the market, as the large fields open up Thursday, but it was clear from the troves of those in the business on-site for one of their annual “inpsiration” getaways that there was still much to be seen.

I, for one, went hunting for a coffee table and a rug  of which I walked away only with a Persian sennah. Other, much more. Here’s a photo sampling of some of the oddities seen on site. For those that missed this week’s show, fear not: you have two more opportunities coming in July and in September.

The Australian based eyewear company is run by Graz Mulcahy who used to be chief designer of Ksubi Eyewear. “Some might also recognize the name, as having designed sunglasses and collaborated with the label Chronicles of Never for their 2009-2011 optical collections, as well as collaborated with cult label Monster Children and Australian fashion house ELLERY.” Eyegoodies has them.
