3Sixteen’s Summer shirting takes Japanese fabrics – sunwashed chambrays and lightweight madras fabrics – and applies some good old fashioned made in the USA craftsmanship. Unique pocket details, like bar tacked stress points for added strength, give each shirt individual appeal. For example, the short sleeve USN Shirt, balances a traditional button pocket with a right side pocket featuring vertical stitches to accommodate pens and other small accessories. It’s the little things, like pocket thought, that keeps us interested in 3Sixteen season to season.

New York based, 3Sixteen, comes to us with the perfect waterproof jacket. The “Convertible Harrington Jacket in Navy” uses “mid-weight water resistant wool,” that literally repels water but still keeps its clean aesthetic. “We updated the standard harrington jacket cut with an extra high knit collar which can be worn in a variety of ways.” The entire jacket is made in the U.S.A. and can be picked up at  3sixteen.

We all know raw denim takes the personality of the owner. Take that idea, expand it, and you have the basis of a new video series from 3Sixteen. The NYC-based brand delves into the lives of some of their customers through Singularities, a trio (currently) of videos that highlight interesting individuals and their respective craft.

Of note is the short about Coffee Foundry, a small-batch roaster founded by Wilson Park and Norman Mui. Not only are the guys at the vanguard of East Coast coffee roasting, but they also have an unlikely partnership with a karaoke bar. The video above explains it all.

Photographer, Vincent Tsang, shoots the 3sixteen catalog for Autumn 2010. Shot in Tribeca, the lookbook features many of their outerwear staples alongside new styles – the Boiled Wool Vest and the heavyweight Melton Wool over shirts. ” Their denim is in there as well. Take a look.

The boys from 3sixteen and the minds behind Self Edge have come together for a new collection of goods under the 3sixteen+ moniker. “Taking the Japanese ideology of leaving no detail untouched these two entities have come together to create a line which brings the Japanese otaku of denim and classic American styles to the western world. 3sixteen+ are working closely with small Japanese mills to create new denim and fabrics for these projects.” Two early models coming from the 3sixeteen+ collection are slim and straight fit denim and are made from 14oz Indigo Roped Dyed Japanese selvedge denim with dual red selvedge for identification purposes.

“We partnered up with them to produce this extra heavyweight 13oz Natural Tan belt – features include hand stitching, waxed and finished edges…  We chose to use their 13oz vegetable dyed harness leather due to its heavyweight nature… The antique military buckle was sourced locally from an Army-Navy store and already shows light signs of aging and rusting; this does not affect its durability.”

Shot on site at the Ace Hotel in NYC, the 3sixteen lookbook for Spring/Summer 2010 has arrived. “Our Spring 2010 range continues our focus on supporting domestic businesses. Shirting fabrics are sourced and sewn together in New York along with our handmade ties. Leather for our footwear comes from the world-famous Horween Tannery in Chicago and is then assembled in Maine. Selvedge denim is flown in from Japan and expertly assembled with heavy duty hardware here in the US.”

Leather goods masters, Tanner have worked with NY’s 3sixteen on two solid tote bags. They are “crafted of 10oz. waxed canvas and also features black English Bridle leather handles and accents. The top of the bag has a lift-a-dot nautical closure system and the front also features two top-access pockets (one with a zip closure). We’ve sourced the waxed canvas and leathers from US manufacturers, and as is the case with everything else Tanner makes, the bag itself is also constructed in the Pacific Northwest.”

The two man army behind 3sixteen continue to produce rather respective menswear in a very difficult market. These men and their team of assistants prove once again that not everyone has to be cutthroat to succeed. 3sixteen’s Autumn 2009 collection extends and refines the brand’s look and feel for a consumer that understands the well mannered nature of the people behind the line. If anything, they have shown their ability to be attentive and aware of the marketplace.
