selectism - "Gucci" Archive Exhibition in Kyoto

Running from June 25 to July 13, 2011 at the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, an exhibition of archival Gucci bags celebrates cross cultural exchange and the importance of traditional craftsmanship. This unique exhibition also celebrates 90 years of Gucci, the Florence-based brand excelling in leather goods for 9 decades. In line with the historic nature of the objects show, the host space – the Golden Pavilion – also embodies cultural and artistic traditions.

Exhibitions honoring the Gucci legacy are scheduled in Japan for the remainder of 2011.

Stanley & Sons 23oz Selvedge Denim Tote Bag

Selectism - stanley-sons-denim-tote-bag-01

You know what we think when we see this bag? We see the next level of the Texas Tuxedo. Think about it – wear this with some washed denim down below and a well worn denim shirt up up top and you’ve got the next evolution of the denim on denim thing. Call it denim on denim with denim. (Hickorees)

Selectism - Want-Les-Essentiels-Spring-2012-01

We’re having a bag day here, so here’s Want Les Essentiels offering at Pitti. They’ve got a new organic line and a case for the Blackberry playbook. And, because you’re be sure to ask this when you take a leap, all those iPads are dummy cases. We also had a quick chat with Dexter Peart, which you can read if you click that button.

Thom Browne for Dita Eyewear Autumn/Winter 2011

15 June 2011, 11.30 | Posted in Accessories | 1 comment »

Selectism - dita-thome-brown-sunglasses-0

Our big brother site lets us in on this Thom Browne eyewear situation:

“While DITA provide superior construction and craftsmenship, the aesthetic is defined by Browne’s signature sensibilities. The focus for the collection is derived from architects, politicians, studio artists, designers and professors from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s while each piece is completed with the signatiure tri-color red, white and blue branding.”

You’ve read (a bit of) the press release, now check the glasses out for yourselves. On a sidenote, isn’t it a little odd that a sunglass range would even have an autumn/winter collection?

Number (N)ine for Ace Elk Belt

Selectism - number-nine-ace-hotel-belt

Number (N)ine continue their (extremely long) victory lap with this Elk belt. We’re not sure if we’d call it a collaboration as such, he was merely ‘inspired by Portland and his stays at Ace Hotel’ as opposed to brain storming ideas with the group, but they’re handsome belts nonetheless. Makr Bottle Key

curated mag - Makr Bottle Key

A bottle opener is, perhaps more than anything, the essential Summer accessory. Makr knows, and also knows a thing or two about making that essential something special. Their version of the standard bottle opener takes a blank antique brass key and modifies it for popping cold ones. Blends right in with your other keys… essential for being prepared, but not looking like a frat legend.

Subtlety, guys, is a good thing.

Thom Browne signs agreement with DITA Eyewear

Selectism - thom-brown-eyewear

In news that’ll please ankle bearers worldwide, Thom Browne’s announced that he’s signed a licensing agreement with DITA eyewear to produce some glasses. There’s no news on what they’d actually look like yet (the above picture is just of his SS11 collection), but it’s interesting to see Browne branching out like this. According to DITA they’ve “always seen ourselves as waging a revolt against mediocrity and uniformity. Thom Browne is the only fashion brand that we believe is truly worthy enough to join us in the uprising.” So join the uprising and buy some glasses!

Heritage Leather Co. Tool Bag

Selectism - heritage-leather-tool-bag-01

Ahhh, the tool bag. You’ve got a bad rap lately. You’re associated with the heritage hipster, nu-workwear and other disparaging terms. But let us not forget why we liked these things in the first place – they’re useful and functional. Just don’t wear this with work boots and a waxed jacket, lest you look like the aforementioned heritage hipster. (Rooney)

Bedwin & The Heartbreakers Bandana

Selectism - bedwin-heartbreaker-bandana-01

Ready for floral print on your bandanas? Of course you are. The print on this bandana isn’t overwhelming, which’ll make it easier to mix into an outfit. It’ll be the parsley of an outfit as opposed to a hot pepper – complimenting instead of overbearing. (Garbstore)
