Our friend, Jou-Yie Chou, from the ACE Hotel checks in with this dispatch from the “Coastal Caravan.”

Ace Hotel decided to join Jay Carroll and the third installation of One Trip Pass for a journey down the west coast from Portland Oregon and the hotel there, to LA and out to Palm Springs. Day one we picked up the Airstream and Silverado (on loan from both companies, respectively) and set out on the road for a two weeks of hoarding a mix of art, craft, vintage and experience. Stayed at Fort Stevens State Park last night outside of the Goonies town, Astoria, OR and are now headed south. Once we get down to LA next week come check out our mobile shop. The Palm Springs Ace Hotel and Swim Club worked with sandal maker Havaianas on a set of flip-flops which hotel guests will find as part of their mini-bar offering. The sandals will run 22$US – a fair price for some sand kickers. You’ll also find them online at Havaianas US shop.

Our friends at Generic Surplus rework their white mesh shoe for Ace Hotel by dipping them into some new colors. Grey and Navy versions of their classic are now available through the Generic Surplus online shop. Here’s how Ace puts it, “This spring, we’re re-introducing these very coveted kicks in new colorways, and with all the same great elements as the original. The classic low-top laced plimsoll silhouette has been re-imagined with a mesh upper made of quick-drying canvas that keeps your feet cool and dry. ACL brings images from the Ace Hotel Pop Up Shop at Shinjuku Isetan in Japan. “The burgeoning Pacific Northwest hotel group opened a holiday pop up shop late last week on the 5th floor of the Shinjuku Isetan. If you have ever been to that Isetan store you will know, that baby is a monster with a pretty amazing variety of some of the best the world has to offer. The Ace shop looks great and I’m sure will be a big hit with the Japanese.”

LA Times checks in with a piece on ACE Hotel’s “suite” work with Cali’s own Levi Strauss. “Suite 501″ is exactly what you would imagine it would be – a denim decorated room in the spirit of the Levi’s 501. “A mock-up of the room was on display in a ’20s era house just off Sunset Boulevard in the shadow of the Chateau Marmont on Thursday, a former residence on Selma Avenue that a few months ago became the new home of Levi’s VIP space/entertainment industry networking hub, headed by Sheri Timmons, director of engagement marketing for Levi’s who worked with Ace owner Alex Calderwood on the project.” Marketing works.

ACE Hotel NYC continues to drop the exclusives on their staff. Kinda makes you want to work there just to get access to the collaboration goods. “The staff at the Portland Ace have worn Jack Purcell shoes since its debut, and for NYC, Ace is partnering with Converse on special Chuck Taylor All Star shoes. An American icon, Converse is indelibly linked with the independent spirit and attitude of countless musicians, artists and athletes. The ACE Hotel NYC gives every detail of their establishment serious review. Take, for example, the scent of the hotel, which is now proudly burned into the air through the PIN 12 scented candle from independent perfume brand, Le Labo. The soy wax candles are hand poured and made in the USA (like all Le Labo goods). Here’s how they describe the duo of ACE with Le Labo. “The mix of the two spirits make total sense when you enter the lobby and smell this very particular woody accord that is absolutely timeless and fits so well with the atmosphere.” If you like the smell of PIN 12 enough, be sure to poke the front desk.
