Y-3 joins most of the Adidas line with a new build out inside the Paris Adidas Flagship Store with Jeremy Scott. “Adidas base camp have opened its doors to celebrate the launch of the Y-3 shop, which is located within the Flagship European store on the Champs Elysees and is home to the complete magnitude of Adidas off-shoots including Stella McCartney. Y-3’s 200 square metre chunk is deliberately minimal with an impervious monochrome finish and is on the first floor of the emporium.”

After previewing the new adidas SLVR Spring 2009 video last week, we now bring you detailed looks from the forthcoming collection via their lookbook. We’re very much excited for this new collection from adidas. The line is clearly more fashion driven but does not lose its connection to the adidas sportswear heritage. Overall the SLVR collection has a very modern Scandivanian feel to it. The subtle branding of the collection is a bonus and even though fashionable, the line looks very comfortable to wear.

We here at Selectism, were not sure what to expect from SLVR, but are very much impressed with the offering and the overall minimalist approach by adidas.

Many more detailed views from the adidas SLVR Spring 2009 Lookbook after the jump. As a special offering, you can also download the full Spring 2009 adidas SLVR lookbook exclusively Selectism.

Alyasha Owerka-Moore has worked on a fine collection of shoes and apparel for the Adidas Originals line. Two of the more interesting looks come in the form of these saddle shoes with their tone-tone leather finish. Unlike the typical saddle shoes, the Adidas Originals versions come with rubber athletic soles for a bit of a performance edge. The two colorways in leather – brown/navy and cream/navy – will be available in February 2009.

highsnobiety - dorophy tang for adidas

This past weekend Adidas opened its massive new Beijing outpost. In celebration, a special exhibition of Dorophy Tang was mounted. Tang, based in Hong Kong and China, mixed Adidas heritage, footballing visuals and French furniture forms into her display. Unmitigated joy comes through the smiling, chubby little kids that figure in each work. Nice reminder of what the sporting life should be like. (via Think Silly).

See How You Play by Champion

21 December 2007, 03.34 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Lately it is interesting to watch some of the classic sports brands re-appear. In general if you look at the sports goods sector, the success did not really come with innovation but rather revival of the classics. If you look at the giants in the market such as Nike, Adidas, Puma – in recent years we see hundreds of re-releases of shoes that first came out 15-25 years ago. Nike is running a vintage campaign for basically every sneaker that they designed prior to 1990. Adidas and Puma is no different. With the huge success of these brands with “old” remixed product, it only seems to make sense that sports brands that used to be big should go for a comeback. Exactly that is happening right now.

Starter (now part of Nike) is planning a massive campaign for 2008. Reebok, which lost so much over the years is slowly fighting its way back. The biggest comeback in recent years probably came from Converse. Champion is also working hard to establish itself again. They are right now running the “See How You Play” campaign with ads appearing in Vogue and InStyle. Champion in Vogue? Yes, you heard right.

Anyways, here below you see a video from the new Champion campaign. It is a very interesting market to watch. How long will these brands be able to succeed with “old” product, and when does the consumer finally step in and demand exciting new innovation. We think 2008/09 will be an interesting time in this market!
