Albam Deck Jacket

26 September 2011, 15.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Albam Deck Jacket

Albam take a crack at the Deck Jacket, an item that continues to creep into men’s collections, driven perhaps by a growing interest in naval clothing or simply just because it’s a fine piece of outerwear. Made in England with Italian Windisle cotton to keep those high sea gales out, the lining is a soft merino wool, not standard military issue but guaranteed to keep you warm. A two way Riri zip. leather zip pull and drawstring hem make an appearance, a limited run, you might want to get involved as quickly as you can.

Albam, Antikmodern Furniture

Albam, Antikmodern Furniture
The folks at Albam alert us to a new addition to their Shoreditch retail space beginning September. Something to sit on rather than put on, they’ve gone into Partnership with Antikmodern, collectors and sellers of midcentury furniture including names such as Ercol, Ole Wanscher and Eames. Albam co-founder James Shaw initially approached them to purchase a dining table he’d seen online but when he found out they were in need of a storefront a collaboration seemed an obvious move. A match made in lifestyle goods heaven. -ld

Albam Laurence Shirt

Albam’s madras influenced short sleeved shirt gives a summery nod to Take Ivy casual. The usual Albam attention to detail comes in the form of oxford lined chest pockets, collar tabs and Japanese woven cotton. Slim and straight the Laurence comes in a variety of  ’plaids’ and block colours.

Albam Trackpants

Apologies in advance, but tracksuit bottoms aren’t going anywhere. We’ve heard that quote about tracksuit bottoms being a sign that you’ve given up on life but we disagree. If anything, it’s  a sign that you love life so much you want to spend every second being as comfortable as possible. And that’s a philosophy we can get behind. (Albam)

Selectism Sessions | Albam

31 March 2011, 14.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

Selectism - albamWe first interviewed Albam back in August of 2009 and at that time, it was still a relatively small company, although they had struck a chord with a wide audience. Fast forward two years and they’re seen as the frontrunners of a trend, have three stores and local manufacture has become a buzz topic. So how have things changed for them? We interviewed James Shaw, getting him on video this time, and found out how things have changed and what’s next.

Albam Baseball Sweatshirt

Selectism - albam-baseball-sweat

Albam continues to churn out the quality basics with this olive sweatshirt. We’ve not seen many quality olive sweatshirts about, so it’d be a worthy addition to your sweatshirt collection. It’d make a change from all those grey versions in your wardrobe anyway. (Albam)

Albam Shetland Knit

There’s been a war of the crewnecks going on outside (that no one is safe from). It’s  a war that’s predicted to go on for a little while longer, but we’d like to pick this Albam Shetland knit as an early frontrunner. It’s not quite top 5 dead or alive, but it’s definitely up there. And not just because of the snigger-worthy colour name either (this colour is called ‘cumin’. Seriously). There’s also leather elbow patches, which are one of those great practical touches we’re glad to see in knitwear. (Albam)

Albam Casual Blazer

Taking their friendly customer service to the next level, Albam have now created this blazer based on notes from their customers. A more cynical person would say that all these customers must be fans of Norse Projects’ blazers, but that’s neither here or there. Similarities aside, this a great layering piece for anyone who needs a little smartening up. On a side note, it’s also nice to see that the three button blazer has now made a full comeback into popularity. (Albam)

Albam Field Jacket

Selectism - albam-field-jacket-01

A wise man once said ‘functionality comes at cost’. That made up phrase has clearly been Albam’s mantra, who’ve been stepping it up on the functional features of their jackets. While that has raised the price (this comes in at £285 instead of their usual £195) there’s a lot of features that will be genuinely useful. Take the back cinch for instance, one criticism we’ve heard about Albam – the only one actually – is that their cuts are a little boxy. This back cinch fixes that, leaving it up to the user to decide how slim or boxy they want their jackets. To end on a cliche, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference. (Albam)

Take a leap to see a couple more shots of this jacket.

Albam Irwin Shawl Collar Cardigan

selectism - albam-irwin-shawl-collar-cardigan-01

We know what you’re thinking – yet another shawl collar cardigan. But, to our surprise, it’s still hard to find a good, thick collared, shawl collared cardy. It’s times like this we go to Albam. Like most Albam pieces, they’re not trying the reinvent the wheel, but you don’t need with with a cardigan. Just make it good, make it grey and make it comfy. Act quick though, these sell out fast.
