Nepenthes and Alfred Sargent have finally got it together. They’ve designed two pieces of footwear,  drawing together their considerable talents for one style each of shoe and boot.

A strong Scottish Ghillie feel with the laces, as Nepenthes describes; ‘The Huntsman group features a hybrid Norwegian and Goodyear welted construction, a unique premium leather upper and a rubber commando sole.’ We really like the slightly off beat choice of style. We’re all for sticking with the well known classics, but it’s nice to see a collaboration throw up something a little unexpected.

Recently someone said that we should never talk about mens dress shoes again (people take negative opinions about their favourite shoe very seriously). So we listened to their thoughts, took them onboard and thought ‘hey, why don’t we do an entire morning dedicated to shoes? They’ll love that!’ We’ll be the first to admit it, posting Alfred Sargent shoes is practically cheating. But hey, start here and then we can swiftly move from here into our comfort zone of kerrazy fashun shoes. This one’s a new style from the AS Exclusive range named after a character from Neighbours*.

We hope all you mens style bloggers can contain yourselves for this post. We don’t know how it’s happened but pictures of double monkstraps have become the holy grail for all these highly original tumblrs. Our personal issue with Monkstraps still remain – they’re just too spiffy for us – but they are undeniably handsome. To make a clunky analogy, they’re a bit like that person who’s technically pretty but you’re just not that into. (A fine pair of shoes)

We’re still a bit confused at the whole shift to Italian tailoring that’s happened in blogging. Actually, we’re more confused at the rejection of everything that was fawned about a few seasons back. Us? We still like the things we always did, we just like a couple of new things as well. Take these Alfred Sargent’s for instance. We could call it “Shoe Monday” here at Selectism. We’re not sure why this is, but a good pair of black chukkas are always a little difficult to find (those awful Red Wing postman boots don’t count). These would look great with some beaten up denim – think this picture – and the sole’s suitable for the rain. Always a bonus. (Alfred Sargeant)
