SL favourite Ally Capellino has just given us their SS10 collection and, as always, it’s a great one. In fact, it’s a veritable bag armada. And because it’s a bag armada, we thought we’d just give you a preview for now and save the rest of the collection for later on this week.

Aside from the usual goodness that Capellino delivers, the SS10 collection also marks their 30th anniversary since being launched in 1980. Material wise, it’s just what you’d expect: vegetable tanned leather, canvas and waxed cotton. There are a couple of new styles, including an especially fetching backpack – see if you can spot it after the leap.

Now that Ally Capellino’s AW09 collection has ‘dropped’ (as the innanetz kidz would say) we can revisit one of our favourite styles, the Frank backpack. Capellino doesn’t get much blog love at the moment and we’re not entirely sure why (for the record, we’ve been featuring the brand for a hot minute) . The availability factor for those in the US is brought up, but that doesn’t seem to stop most Japanese brands.

But let’s get back to the bag. The song remains the same with the Frank, only the colours have changed. Personally, we’re fans of the olive bag, but we wouldn’t be offended if you disagreed. Okay, maybe a little offended. (Ally Capellino)

While we like a good tote bag, we love a good backpack. So we couldn’t wait to feature this Ally Capellino ‘Frank’ backpack. We could list all the reasons why we love this bag, but we’ll keep it down to two essential ones.

Farfetch have an interesting interview with bag maker Ally Capellino. Capellino talks about her beginnings, future collaborations and her approach to to the brand. An interesting answer is when she was asked her style and design philosophy.

“Practical, tactile, unstructured, casual, wearable and classic. I like to be inspired by the leathers or fabrics that I find, rather than design something and then try to apply it to a material.”

You might have spotted that we’re quite the fans of Ally Capellino. We’ve raved about the satchels and holdalls, but her briefcases aren’t to be sniffed at either. This bag has something about it, a sort of relaxed smartness that makes it suitable for those days when you’re just carrying a couple of magazines around and want to look relatively urbane whilst doing it. We previewed Ally Capellino’s A/W09 collection on Friday, but because we couldn’t hold back on this bag armada (and because we said we’d post it today) we’ve put up the full collection today. While we were fans of the SS09 collection, we much prefer Capellino’s winter collections. As we noted in the preview, there’s a healthy amount of waxed cotton and they’re available in suitably autumnal colours. Cotton aside, there’s also dollops of nylon, leather and canvas in satchel, holdall and messenger bag form.

Sometimes a phrase just feels right. A reader called S.N.S Herning’s AW09 collection a ‘powerful sweater armada’ yesterday and we feel that’s the perfect description for when a label brings an amazing collection based around one item. It’s also the perfect phrase to describe Ally Capellino’s AW09 collection, which we’re previewing today. The collection continues on in the classic Capellino way – waxed cotton, classic bags, quintessentally British – that sort of thing.

Ally Capellino has been collaborating with unusual companies for a while now – first with tate, now with Apple. Most bag companies make products with clothing companies, but Capellino seems to be bystepping them in order to collaborate with companies who need bag makers more than most. Her Apple collab isn’t exactly new – it’s been on sale on the Apple store for at least a month – but these sleeves won’t be available till April.
