Aloha Rag’s Paneled Jacket arrives as one of the standout pieces from their recently unveiled Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. The jacket features a base canvas of soft grey tweed, skillfully paired with tan corduroy panels found on the inner sleeves. The panels provide a charming modernist accent to an otherwise traditionally cut jacket, indicative of AR’s mission to create classically styled garments that benefit from the odd contemporary twist.

In addition to those panels, a duo of tan leather football buttons sit on the face of the jacket with four securing each cuff, all of which fix on leather-bound buttonholes nodding toward AR’s appreciation of luxury and fine detailing. -jr

A few special make-ups for Aloha Rag from Converse have come through recently. The Aloha Rag 20th anniversary Zip make-up may beat them all. In fact, it may well beat any sneaker this year. I’m giving it my vote for trainer for the year.  The upper is simply beautiful with its variety of fabrics. The laces are clean. Don’t tall them Thom Browne, please.

Here’s a look at the private label (in-house) collection from Aloha Rag for Autumn/Winter 2011. The collection features a wide range of garments for the gents all ranging from $200-$1000. The looks remains contemporary and do not stray too far from looks by other designers stocked at Aloha Rag. Expect a well developed collection everyman-ready. “Everything is designed in New York, produced in Japan, and will be sold at Aloha Rag, A’Maree’s, Hirschleifer’s, FortyFiveTen, Joan Schepp and Boon The Shop (Korea)”

A few new things from Aloha Rag in the form of a small in-house collection. “Spring 2010 Tatsugo Yoda introduces the Aloha Rag brand. The collection consists of 10 men’s and 10 women’s items that are a nostalgic take on Americana basics ranging from a $75 organic t-shirt to an $800 sumptuous leather motorcycle jacket.  There are reinterpretations of classics, such as a military inspired vest designed with a cap sleeve and heavy studding or a light weight boxy jacket done in a distressed flannel for an unexpected finish.  Each piece echoes Americana favorites incorporating a modern edge and finished with the meticulous attention to detail his customers demand.”

Retail in the US has hit a bit of a crunch in 2008. All the while new stores continue to pop up on the scenes of city metros, including the Aloha Rag Store in Greeniwch Village. Division Street sat down with owner, Tatsugo Yoda, recently to talk shop. "Once in a while we find clothing stores we actually like…Recently, we stumbled into Aloha Rag, on Greenwich St. We fell in love. The clothing is a mix of something mildly familiar, but in a good way (Philip Lim, Tim Hamilton) and brands that will set you apart (Lyle & Scott, Garment House Mania)

Garment House Mania is a denim factory brand in Japan. Aloha Rag has collaborated with them on a limited denim run as an introduction to the peopleinternationally. "A ‘GARMENT HOUSE’ is where clothing enthusiasts create items for fellow clothing enthusiasts by meticulously applying their knowledge and skill as craftsmen." The GHM for Aloha Rag is made in Japan and available in 3 styles and feature a slight boot cut across models.

DNR is reporting that Selectism favorite, Aloha Rag, is opening a shop in NYC. “Aloha Rag, the Honolulu, Hawaii–based store known for its mix of hip, urban, men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, is surfing the Soho wave. The company had a soft opening earlier this month of a 2,400-square-foot store at 505 Greenwich Street near Spring. The company, whose biggest men’s brands include Maison Martin Margiela, Lanvin and Ann Demeulemeester, has been in business in Hawaii since 1990. An e-commerce site, Aloharag.com, launched in 2003, with English and Japanese versions.”

The “3.1 Phillip Lim” collection by Philip Lim has been going strong since it s inception in 2005. After years focusing in womenswear, Mr. Lim released his first menswear collection in 2007. Using roomy silhouettes, the 3.1 Philip Lim mens line fits more men more comfortably where they need it the most.
